I have a friend who has just completed a degree ,a pyschology degree, she has done it through the Open university, and she was able to claim a grant to do it.She did well and passed with flying colours.Considering that she has just had her sixtieth birthday I think she is a very clever lady!would you like to do anthing like this?would you be able to study again?or was school bad enough for you?

I went back to school and just finished. I am a medical transcriptionist now. I use to take care of a elderly man that was 84. he had no legs and graduated college with his masters in business. I thought if he can go back to school so can I! I did and am grateful now. Tell your friend way to go!

Congrats! You are never to old to go back to school and learn something. I think as we live each day we always are learning something new sometimes good and sometimes bad but we learned no matter.
Congrats for getting your medical transcriptionist. I have been seriously thinking about taking this course as we are in the process of moving to a larger city not by my choice but due to my hubbys work and I would like to stay at home. Do you do this out of your home and did you go to one of the schools online? Sorry for all the questions I am just very interested in this line of work and have been trying to see what all options are available.
Thanks for sharing.

I have been offered funding to do a two year MSc of my choice. Sounds great doesn't it. However, I want to do a research degree (as opposed to a taught one) in family history. Unfortunately nowhere in the UK does that course. I can do a Diploma in Local History at Oxford that will lead to a two year MSc, but I really do not want to spend three years studying and whilst I have an interest in local history, and there is an obvious link to family history, it is not what I really want to do. I'd be doing it just because I could, not because I want to. That's too long a study period for me anyway. The idea of going to college is a very attractive one though.

If I were to do a three year course I would be 54 when I graduated. Of course I could find a job, but probably not doing anything relevant to the course. I worry hugely about the fact that I had so long sick in my previous employment - despite having barely a day off in the previous 30 years - and I feel that a course would provide evidence that I am ale to apply myself again. If I were to undertake a course I'd want it to be something appropriate to what I was going to work at later. Decisions decisions.

I see where you are coming from, and your feelings are perfectly natural,it is far more difficult to get back to work as we become older, and that s maybe why there are many who choose to do some kind of voluntary work instead. When you have been off sick for a long while there is a chance that prospective employers may see you as a high risk employee. But that doesnt stop you doing a course of some kind, one that you would enjoy.Mum wanted me to do one,and lol with all the best will in the world I dont think in between visiting her and doing my daily things, and making sure all is well with Mr Ruby that there would be a lot of time left, but im sure I would like and enjoy it in all probablity

The idea of going to college is interesting, but slightly daunting ,it seems that the government is quite keen to send all back to learn again. But the sticking point is they then have to find jobs for all of the mature students at the end of their studies, and im none too sure thats possible! My uncle `trained` lol and went from course to course for years!he was a teacher in Bath, and now after all of that training he is happily running a little B and B in Bath,so the training was a little bit `wasted` ..but local history sounds interesting.

Wow, that is cool she must be so chuft, I would be! I would love to study again, I am planning on doing it when my youngest child starts full time school. Funnily enough the only thing that was putting me off was worrying that I was too old LOL, after reading this it seems that we are never too old!!!

I really enjoyed high school and I enjoyed college even more. I haven't been inside a school for 7 years. Someday I'll go back.
