there are a lot of viruses on the internet and i have had a few on my computer before and have had to get them off of my computer and its really hard to get them off sometimes but sometimes you can't do it at all...there are a lot of times when they will just crash your computer and you can't do anything about it, so there fore i want a free anti virus program that will really work and won't slow my computer down at all, and that you all know works because i am using avast but i have heard that is not the best...so what all do you use and does it work for you and has it slowed your computer down? thanks for taking the time out of your day to read my discussion and i hope that you all have a great evening and night!

Im pretty computer savvy and have built many computers for myself and family from the ground up.
I hate norton and macafee. these are the most popular anti-virus softwares because they are very well-known and have been around a long time. the problems with them is that they insist on continually running in the background and ESPECIALLY norton has all these alert pop ups while its running which is really annoying if you play computer games at all. well... its just annoying period.
anyways, I use whats called AVG anti-spyware which you can download at Download.com! The great thing about this is that they update for new virus' just as much as norton or macafee, but its free. you can buy the full version but you get all the elements to remove any malware/adware/spyware for free.
It doesnt run in the background so it wont slow your computer down. You will just set it to automatically scan your computer 1 time a day at a specific time. I have mine set for 3am cause Im typically not at my computer at that time. Also, it has an add on that scans every website in I.E. or firefox and tells you whether the website is safe for you to visit which is great.
