I've been using laptop for so long
and I don't have problems with typing using the letters
but when it comes to number's, I've got a problem for the speed
unlike with the keyboard for Desktop which I can type speedy
when it comes to numbers.
How about you? Are you comfortable in typing numbers using laptop?
I've saw some of my friends that they have a gadget attached to their laptop
it is a number keyboard.
Also, when using laptop, I could not do some of the short cut keyboard.
Please share your experience.Thanks.
All the best

I am really not comfortable typing in a laptop. Since I type sometimes in French I need all those alt+ number shortcuts to get letters like these é, à, ç. That's why I still use a pc

I really find it more convenient to use a key board of a desk top for the short cut keys that I can't do on a lap top key layout..
Also hesitant with the numbers but, can type alright if its only textual.
When I need a certain letter that I can't make with the lap top, even though I know there is a way, I search for a word on the net that would particularly be spelled with the kind of letter that I want and then copy the letter if not the whole word into where I want to.

At first, i found it hard since it is just a soft touch and very small. But as i am used to it, I know found it easy. Actually, i am comfortable using laptop than desktop keyboard. But I still use desktop especially at home.

It took me a while to get used to the keys on a laptop, but eventually I got the hand of it and now I'm better at typing on the laptop than on a separate keyboard! Isn't that funny? My laptop is also one of the the newer models so that short cut keys are all grouped together on top. I don't need to press multiple keys to formt he shortcut anymore. :)

The only computers Ive ever owned are laptops and i find typing very easy. i used my friends computers and never use the number pad because I'm so used to the other numbers. as for short cuts i don't see why it would be that different i use so many and saves me loads of time to navigate through different programs and everything. and those attachable # keys sometimes break really quickly.

not at all my friend. When it comes to keyboard the laptops are very hard to use. And first of all the layout is very cramped sober most of the time whenever I have to type at a fast speedo will the small layout will definitely forced meaning some typographical errors and that is something which is very irritating and trucks desktop keyboard is definitely very easy to operate plus it is very rough and tough and that is the reason why I will definitely prefer a desktop keyboard of our own up to a laptop keyboard and that is the reason I will also say laptop keyboards are not that much comfortable as the desktop keyboards are. But definitely one thing which we cannot deny was that the laptop keyboards are very soft to touch. plus when your keyboard has backlight built in it indefinitely it is one of the big attractions.

Hello, agihcam!
I have to admit that I do not feel comfortable by using a laptop's keyboard. It is really strange and small, with the keys more compacted, and I am really used to the common keyboards. I don't need to keep looking where are my fingers hitting, and I basically do not have to think anymore to type. I mean, when the thoughts starts appearing in my head, my fingers move automatically, I do not stop to think "where is this key?". However, when I am in a laptop, it's harder, because my fingers are used to the space of the common keyboards.
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.

I have a laptop with a QWERTY keyboard but it also has a number pad on the right hand side, like a desk top keyboard would. It's the perfect solution! There aren't many laptops with them...mine is the Dell inspiron 1720 I think apple makes one with it as well.

Hi,
I think I've used a regular PC keyboard for so long that I wouldn't like a laptop keyboard. My son has a laptop and I've tried to use his sometimes but it's not the keyboard that gives me fits, it's the mouse thingy. I hate having to try to use your finger to navigate on the browser. I have such a hard time!
I'd much rather have a regular mouse. I would also have trouble with the screen size. My pc monitor is 19" and I love it.

I am quite comfortable with my laptop's keyboard since i have been using it for a year now... and i have been using a laptop for more that 5 years now... but i must say that i am a much faster typist when i am using the ordinary keyboard... especially when it comes to numbers...
When i was taking typing lessons... i got sick and had to be absent for a week... and that was the time when the teacher taught my classmates some tricks on how to type the numbers... without using the number pad... well... i am just sorry i missed that lesson...

Good point. I just got a new laptop the other day, bringing my total ownership to two laptops and two desktops. I find the keyboard on this new laptop to be quite comfortable, but I too have some difficulty typing numbers from the home row. I can do it, but it's not particularly comfortable. And it's certainly not as fast as I can do on the 10-key, having been trained on it.
As far as keyboard shortcuts go, I'm alright there. I've somehow managed to accustom myself to assign Ctrl + Shift + (whatever) shortcuts on my laptops, while sticking with the more tradition Ctrl + Alt + (whatever) on the desktops. Cheers!

It took a few days for me to get used to the keyboard for typing. But I am a pretty decent typer so I got used to it pretty well and I don't think it has effected my speed that much. The only thing I never learned the numbers at all. With a normal sized keyboard I'd always use the keypad to the right. Of course I don't have that on my laptop so I am forced to use numbers the other way which that does slow me down. But besides my number dilema I am peachy. Besides I don't usually have a need to type too many numbers.

I can type really fast on my desktop computer's keyboard and it is really a very old keyboard and not even clean anymore. You can't even clean it to make it less old but still it is something that I am really comfortable with and I can type 7 characters in a second when using it.
It is not very easy to get used to a new keyboard after all. The same thing applies for the laptop keyboards. They are just a little "strange" and I find it very difficult to type whatever I want especially if I am trying to be as fast as on my usual keyboard.
However, there is something good with them and when typing on a laptop your strokes don't make noises as it is making lots of noises when I am typing some stuff on my desktop keyboard.
Even in desktop keyboards the position of some keys change on some other keyboards especially the punctiations. In fact, I am talking about only comma ",". The "," key sometimes stands just next to the enter key but on some other keyboards they but it near backspace key and it is just a very big handicap for me as I mostly try to make something looking good when you check the punctiation. (Especially when I am typing in my own language and some official papers)

I've never bought a laptop for this very reason. The only laptop I had a chance to use was one that a friend had several years ago and it drove me crazy to try to type on that thing.
I suppose they may have changed some, but I'm so used to a regular keyboard in a desktop model that I don't think I could ever be comfortable enough to use a laptop full time.
I wish I could, because they use less energy, and I'd be able to use it other places besides here at my desk too.

I was also not that comfortable using a laptop before but due to everyday use I got use to it already. MAybe just allow some time to be more familiar of the number keys on laptop will do. Or you can just imagine that you are using a typewriter. LOL!
