When was the last time you took a walk?

I am a strong proponent of taking walks. In fact, I think walking is one of the best exercises we can do because-1--it's affordable to most, 2--we can do it inside or outside, 3--it keeps us moving. Now, in view of that, I am embarrassed to say the last time I took a walk was 4 days ago. The fitness experts say we should walk 4 or more times a week for at least 30 minutes. Treadmill walks count! When was the last time you took a walk? Where did you go? Was it inside or outside? Treadmill or not?

I actually walk everyday, or every weekdays, because I walk when going to work and when going home from work. I think the amount of time I walk a day combined would be 30 minutes. So I think that is good right? What I don't like about it is when there are a lot of vehicles emitting pollutions. I always have my handkerchief ready. Have a nice day!

Hello richiem. Good for you that you walk everyday. Yes, the experts say that 30 minutes a day of walking is quite healthy. Oh, I hope that pollution isn't too bad. I know that in some big cities, it is pretty rough. Thanks for responding, richiem.

It's not really too bad. In the morning there are only few vehicles and in the afternoon, there are not too many. But some days there are a lot. I just stay as far as I can or find some other routes.

I do try to take a walk every day. In fact I have to get out and walk every day. I'm always out for more than half an hour and I often do some very brisk walking, which is more effective. Strolling casually on level ground is not as good. I like hill walking but I live at sea level on the coast and I have to travel inland to find a decent hill. Local walks are very enjoyable though and they cost me nothing. I can walk for hours when I get to the countryside, or if I follow the coast. Even when I lived in London I enjoyed walking in quiet areas and in the parks. I have not had a walk yet today so I think I should log off and go for one now!

Hey there paid2write. Wow, that is very impressive that you take a walk mostly every day! I can't imagine walking for hours as my feet and ankles always start hurting after about 2 1/2 hours of steady walking, which I rarely do. I think that walking alone is good for the soul--it allows one to reflect on problems, achievements, questions, etc. And usually, I reach resolutions by the time my walk is over! Happy strolling!

I agree it is as good for the mind as it is for the body. I have my best thoughts and ideas when I'm out walking.

The last time I had a walk was about 4 hours ago. We have a mad husky that requires a lot of walking. He gets anywhere between 4-6 miles a day. I guess it doesn't matter too much about the 30 minutes if I spend most of my day walking the pooch!

Hey spiritwolf52. Wow, it does sound like your husky is keeping you moving! Four to six miles a day is quite a ways to walk, or at least, it would be for me. I guess having a dog would be a "built-in" force to get a person walking daily, huh? Yeah, it sounds like there's no shortage of exercise or walking at your house. Take care and thanks for sharing.

me nd my wife take a walk five times a week. we put our child in his stroller and we walk going to the market. it is a 20 minutes walk. after she buys what we need then we walk back home. sometimes we stop at the park to let our child run around then we go home. my wife goes to market four times or five times a week so we walk four or five times a week. it is a good exercise. we can not do it when it is raining.

Hi se7enthbird. When you think about it, if you and your wife are walking 20 minutes each way to the market, you're walking 40 minutes per day 5 times a week. What a great way to get your exercise in. Plus, it sounds like you also get to enjoy your child along the way. The 2 of you are probably both in fantastic shape. Thank you for joining in this conversation. Enjoy your walks.

I walked around outside while talking on the phone to my husband and then my brother in law, about 30 minutes total, just a little bit ago. I get alot of walking in while talking on the phone. It adds lots of steps to my day. Tuesday when my hubby was home we walked some also.

That's a great idea--to walk around while talking on the phone. Even if you are inside the house, it will still add plenty of steps. We really enjoy early morning and early evening walks here in FL. This time of year, it's much too hot after 8:30 a.m. or before 7:00 p.m. to walk outdoors for longer than 5 or 10 minutes. Let's all keep moving. Thanks for the idea about walking while talking on the phone.

I get alot of steps in while on the phone because my Mom loves to call..lol. She talks my head off so I figured I might as well get some exercise in. I love regular walks with the hubby better though.

The last time i took a walk was today evening with my mom for about an hour. It was almost a week ago i had gone for a walk. I feel refreshed after a walk, come home, drink a couple of glasses of water and I'm again totally energetic to finish all my assignments for the day.

Hi nikhilathreyas. Your evening walks with you mom sound very nice. Yes, they do tend to energize a person, don't they? If your weather is such that you can walk outdoors, it's quite pleasant to observe nature or your neighborhood. Where I live the humidity and heat is pretty high this time of year. So, I am walking mostly indoors on my treadmill. Thanks for your response.

The last time I took a walk was just before summer arrived. I was into exercising and power walking to lose weight and did really well. I haven't been on a long walk since school broke off but have been actively involved with my son and his swimming and other activities. When he starts back up at school in September, I;m going to begin my power walks again and hopefully this time I can stick with it for a while. There was also another reason why I stopped too. Two ladies were attacked while walking the bike trail I use to walk daily so that kind of scared me off for a bit. I know there are other areas I can walk but even that kind of scares me. Maybe I just need to find a walking buddy :)

I am showing my ignorance but I don't know the difference between power walking and regular walking. I have a feeling that power walking is alot faster than regular walking. That's cool that you will be starting up your walking habit again. Oooh, that's scary about the ladies being accosted on the bike trail where you used to walk. Uh, yeah, that would definitely discourage me from walking there. Your idea about finding a walking buddy is a good one. Maybe you could walk inside the local mall or something, for safety reasons. Do take care, maddysmommy. And, thanks for sharing.

I think it would be last Saturday. I just walked downstairs because we have a very small park downstairs. Last Saturday, I needed some time with my own and I needed to organize my thoughts quietly and therefore I went down and walked around. It was quite nice because it helps me think and I get better emotionally afterwards.

That's cool that you have a park nearby. Sounds very convenient to just go downstairs and walk until you feel better. I love the way walking helps me clear my head and makes me feel better physically and emotionally. Hope you keep walking, wondericequeen. Take care.

The last time I go on walking was yesterday. I renewed my license in the mall. I went to the mall, parked my motorcycle in the area which is opposite side of the licensing office. So i made a walk from the park to the office, and i guess that was 300 to 400 kilometers. I have no other choice but to walk. That day gave me at least 800 kilometers of walk. Hey there, I am still in college life so I do a lot of walking everyday to go to lectures and uni. I am staying outside the campus so sometimes I walk about 1 kilometer to my faculty which is in the centre of uni. It's hard work but sometimes I just hate waiting 20 minutes for the bus to move. I rather have a 30 minute walk. Gym are too expensive for me. So I dont do treadmills. ^^

Hello koharukusumi. I remember when I was in college, I walked my legs off. It was necessary and part of college life. It sounds the same for you now. I don't blame you for not wanting to wait on the bus. That is a hassle. Gyms can be very expensive, I agree. Your exercise is built into your lifestyle, koharukusumi, and that is the best way to do it! Thanks for sharing.

Hey pearl, I walk every day. It's not even always by choice. It is necessary because it is my mode of transportation. You see I have no car and when I need to get somewhere I need to walk. Well at least I need to first walk to the busstop. I have a nice walk to the busstop and then I need to walk after taking the bus to the next bus and then wherever I am going an so on. I live in an area that is ideal for walking. When I leave my apartment there are so many stores to walk to. There are grocery stores, department stores, restaurants, you name it! If I just want exercise, I can just walk around the development that I live in. It's a garden apartment complex and the people that live here walk all around it for the purpose of getting their daily exercise.

Hi Opal26. That is so cool that you walk every day! In a way, I think that people who must walk to live their daily lives are in far better physical condition than those of us who have to drive everywhere. Your neighborhood sounds like a really nice and convenient place to live. You've got everything there just a few steps away. Happy walking, Opal26. And thank you so much for your response.

i went walking yesterday. I had to go to the bank to lodge a cheque in my account. I usually go walking, its a great exercise but it relaxes me or calms me down at the same time. I'm quite fit and healthy but when i go for a walk in the country it relaxes me and makes me forget about the stresses and worries of my career and life in general. And at the same time, it keeps me healthy! :D

Your walking serves as your exercise and your stress management technique! There is something about walking that helps relieve pressures for people. At least, it does for me. Your walks in the country sound marvelous. May you have many beautiful walks in your future, Jimmynoname. Take care.

Hello vikas_121. It's wonderful that you walk everyday and make it a part of your routine. You sound quite committed--not everyone would carry an umbrella and walk in the rain. It's handy that you also have a treadmill in case you don't feel like going out. Yes, the fresh air is very nice, isn't it? Hope you continue to enjoy good health. I appreciate you sharing your walking habits in this discussion.

I just got home from a 3 mile walk. I walked outside around this big field, close to my house. It's a very popular place for people to take walks or jogs. I try to walk every day at least 3 miles. I will go and walk again later.

The last time I took a walk was two nights ago outside. My whole family took a walk. It was a short walk but at least it was a walk. I used to walk on the treadmill for 40 minutes each day. I want to get back in that habit because I hardly ever do it anymore. My treadmill has been making this really loud noise and after about 20 minutes of walking on it, it starts to get really hard to walk on so I have to stop and wait and turn it off then turn it back on after a while. I lost quite a bit of weight when I was walking 40 minutes on the treadmill each day. I want to start walking more to be healthier and it would probably help to loose some weight.

Hello 02bnocn. Yes, every walk counts. In fact, the experts say walk in 10 minute segments 3 times a day and it's just as good as walking for 30 minutes all at once. Although I do use my treadmill quite a bit, it is somewhat loud. I have to close the door and turn the TV all the way up to hear it when I'm on my treadmill. That is great that you lost alot of weight by treadmilling. Good for you! Yes, I'm with you, I need to get back to walking more regularly also.

Hi mEisky. Good for you. Having a daily habit of walking is a good thing. I usually don't notice it helping me lose pounds but I do feel physically better when I walk regularly. Plus, it sort of all fits together--if I get in my walking, I tend to eat healthier. Thanks for taking part in this discussion.

we enjoyed walking, its our daily routine except when its raining.. Its either we just walk around the neighbrhood, take the kids to playground or go outside and walk around the town.. We also make it a habit to just walk when going to the store, church and post office.. Those places are walking distance from our house that's why when we see others driving their car, we're vey proud of ourselves.. Not only that you have exercise but you also save gas...
