getting your pets fixed

One of my best friends got her boys a female cat. They said that they would let their cat have one litter of kittens. So the cat had a litter of kittens. They ended up with 2 cats from that litter. So they have a mother cat, a sister cat, and a brother cat. Before they know it the mother cat is pregnant again. Each time they have a litter they ask us to take a kitten. We have one cat and that is enough for us right now. By this time the younger female cat is at that age where she can have kittens. So guess what? Your right.. Another litter of kittens. To each is own. Is what I say.
The only thing that is bothers me is that they are always complaining about the cats. It is summer and with outside cats come fleas. Plus when we go over we are told to not let which ever cat out because it is in heat. Well one day my husband stood with the door open to call to our son. The door was only open for 10 sec. tops. Sure enough the in heat cat escaped. Then our friends were like, " Well you just got yourselves a cat and kittens." We just laughed it off.
Being good friends I have suggested that they just get their cats fix. They always have and excuse that they don't have the money to do that right now. Then I just kind of leave it at that.
How does this make you feel? Do you know anybody like this?

First things first, if they cannot afford to have their cats fixed then they shouldn't even have cats! How do they provide food and treats to them? They wouldn't have had this problem if they had gotten their cat fixed to begin with.
Second off, unfixed female cats go through the same cycles that a human woman goes through. They get their period! My boyfriend has 2 female dogs that are not fixed and it's grose when they are at that time of month. Even though it doesn't come out like ours does, there is still blood on the ground and you cant even pick them up. Their hair gets all matted from dried blood and then they jump on your couch and get blood all over that as well. It's disgusting. Cat's are even worse, they get up on counters and tables where you eat and with their period! Very Grose.

I know, it is pretty sick. Plus that is the thing. I know that they can afford their animals because they do take care of them and they eat well. They just always complain about having all these cats.
When it is that time of the money for one of their cats you can even say it's name without it rubbing it's butt everywhere. It is so grose. They just laugh about it and get mad when people let the cats out.

It is totally irresponsible not to spay and neuter pets. It is bad for the cats' health to go into repeated heats. It is not the fault of visitors if a cat gets out; it is the fault of owners. It makes me sick. There are too many unwanted pets as it is; to create more is a terrible thing to do.
There are many low cost spay and neuter places that will take care of these cats. Payment arranagements can be made.
This kind of behavior is disgusting. I mean the owners.

That is sad they won't get the cat fixed. They are going to end up being overrun with kittens. Alot of vets will let you make payments on the surgery. I got my kitties from the humane society and they would not let you take them unless they were fixed.

I had a neighbor like this and unfortunately we had to deal with an ever growing population of cats from over there coming into our yard. Worse than the fact that these people were irresponsible pet owners, they were also uncaring and cruel because, when they got tired of having so many cats, the husband would load some up in a box and just dump them somewhere to fend for themselves. It's sad when people don't take pet ownership seriously enough.

I find that sort of irresponsibility rather appalling. They may not have the money to get their pets fixed, but they certainly can't have the money, then, to care for the cats properly. It costs about $35 at the human society or a low-cast spay/neuter program to get a cat spayed.
I have a very difficult time being accepting of someone who's willingly and knowingly contributing to the feral cat population or landing kittens into the pound.
