I had the same problem and I solved it. I never buy books anymore. I will go to the library and request books that I want. I read them way too fast to spend money on them and then I never wanted to get rid of them. If I really think I want a book - especially a cookbook or self help book - I always get it from the library to make sure it is what I want and then I will buy it of Amazon or ebay. At least then I am not spending full price on it.

I agree with you, it's hard to get rid of books, especially those that (in my case) I bought with my allowance. hahaha....I also find it hard because every book I bought has a story of how I manage to get a copy.

I have the same problem, I can probably count on one hand the number of books that I have given away in recent years, I have bookshelves full as well as anumber of boxes in the loft. i figure that either I will someday have a carboot sale or get round to reading them again.

I don't get rid of books, even the ones I read and didn't like, and will most likely never read again. This is probably why I have nearly 3,000.

Yup, I find it so hard to part with them, especially those that I have read and re-read (these must be my favourites). My brother and I often go to book sales, and load up on books. We'll keep those by our favourite authors or those we enjoy, and the rest - we're trying this out now - we hope to pack and give away. At least it will not take up more space - I've been growling at my hubby about his odds & ends. I wouldn't want him to talk about my books!

I have the same problem. However my books accumulate faster than I can read them. I found a solution that may help you. BURN THEM...just kidding. Every time I am done reading them I can not help but feel that if I get rid of them...no one else will get use out of them. Plus I hate giving away my books. However, recently I found a book store called Half-Price Books. There are many locations, and if you go on their website you can do a search for your location. You can bring in your used books/CD's/Movies/ etc... and they will give you money for them. I like this idea because I get money for finishing a book, and doing something that I enjoy anyway, and they get put back out there for someone else to enjoy. I believe the website is www.halfpricebooks.com. If I'm wrong I believe you could easily type in half price books in yahoo and it pulls it up for you.
