What is a sugar glider? I have never heard of anythng like that before.

The easiest (though not most accurate) description is just "sorta like a marsupial flying squirrel."
They are from Australia and glide like a flying squirrel, though are not rodents at all. They are marsupials and thus more related to possums, kangaroos, etc. Sugar Gliders are intelligent, beautiful animals but NOT easy to care for CORRECTLY. They are exotics and thus legal in some states in the US, illegal in others, and legal only with certain permits in others. Unfortunately many people who DO own them don't do enough research first and trust the wrong "experts" who sell them and the gliders suffer for it.
But when cared for right, they are amazing companions.
