why do people smoke?

lately ive been wondering why people smoke, i mean the way i see it everyone is trying to elimenate smoking; the government, the teachers, my paarents... i think the more people are trying to eliminate smoking, the more people are starting to do it. people saying smoking is bad, just makes you want to try it. and when you do apperently your hooked for life. what made you start smoking? was it that the cool people did it, was it that you liked the feeling you experience when you smoke, or was it just because you needed a hoby share with me what made you smoke, and why you dont quit.
