The herd instinct, does it debase us all?

Individuality, independence, standing up for what you believe in...these are all characteristics that are wholly embraced in modern society. However, when placed under pressure, the very vast majority of us will revert to our instictive, selfish selves and join the majority for protection. We see it every day in schools and work-places, and less often but more horrifically, in racism and genocide. If our strongest instinct is survival, will we ever evolve into truly 'humane' humans??

I feel, even in hardest of times if we can stick to our values we will still remain humane. It doesn't take much to be one though. Just believe in yourself and have the integrity intact and of course be empathetic. These are simple things but sadly and strangely we are derooting from these very fast.
Scary!!

That is the reason for the deterioration of society, because we give in so easily. Stand firmly by your beliefs and you will remain truly humans. Follow the one's who do .Set them as your examples. Instinct for survival is natural to any living organism, but what differenciates us from other such beings is our compassion and our comprehension.
