Why people are so concerned with their star rating?

Whenever I log in to myLot, I always find a discussion somebody complaining that their star rating went down. You might think I don't even have a star yet, so I don't know how it is. But when I read all these discussions I always come to the same conclusion - the rating is not a true evaluation of the persons' discussion quality. I have seen great discussions started by people with lower or even with no star rating, and some really pointless ones by people with rating of 10, regardless if the topic is something I am interested in or not. What I have also noticed here on myLot is that there will be always people that would disagree with your opinions and believes and therefore rate you negatively regardless of the quality of the discussion/response. Also, would it really be an accomplishment for somebody with a lot of friends to have a perfect 10? Does such person really produces better discussions and responses than somebody with a lower rating? Or I have completely misunderstood the DRS, how it works, its value and its purpose?

Hi Techgurl, I totally agree with you. But I think you are missing a point this people talking over and over about the same subjet is just a matter of talking about something. I see many discussions that are copy of another ones. I saw someone here giving the clue in how to make money in MyLot and the person said that she would start 100 discussions a day just to get the money, so at one point they run out of subjects and start to copy. Have a great day!

I don't know, I'm starting to think we have the stars so we can judge others without even reading what they have to say and so we will always have something to start a new topic about if we can't think of anything new and original.
Welcome to myLot, you will probably just have to ignore the stars.

I am starting to believe the same thing. Earlier today I just got sick and tired of reading the same discussions over and over again, plus it was from the "What's your age" type, so just couldn't restrain myself from asking a bit sarcastically, but politely, what is the point of the discussion (and answering the question in the meanwhile just so it would be relevant to the discussion). It wasn't productive that's for sure, nor original or interesting. And the response that I got was not really what I expected. I didn't expect a positive response thats for sure, but I also didn't expect the starter of the discussion to totally miss my point of responding it and to act as if she has me all figured out. To make matters even worse, the discussion was made by a 10 star person!!! Another reason to ignore the stars. Maybe people get blinded by anger to see the whole point of why they got the response they did and start blabbing nonsense, attacking others to make themselves feel better although you meant them no harm.

Actually, they should not be so concerned about the star rating. But they start worrying once their star rating comes down. They just do not adjust to the fact that their star ratings have come down. Many do not know that ratings always do not go up, it can come down also. Ratings do not effect our earnings, this is not known to many. As you grow older here on mylot, you may also start concerning about your ratings........LOL!

Hi techgurl! I use to have a 10 star rating till sometime back. I rubbed some one the wrong way in one of my discussions and then had my rating going down to 9 within no time. This really discouraged me and have made me keep away from mylot.

I am sorry that this happened to you, but I don't think that this should be the reason to keep you away from mylot, especially if you stood by what you believe in. After all 9 is right next to 10 and as I see a lot of people here do not pay attention to the stars.

I do not take any notice of it now as I just still give my opinion, regardless of who likes it or not, can't please everyone and I do not take things too seriously here like some do and I know people can have a different opinion to mine and that's no reason to mark them down

Hi there :D
I don't mind what number is in my star, I just post what I want to post, if they don't like it and give a - rating, then that is their choice.. Althoug I think it is cowardly.. Instead of talking to me why they think that they just give a - rating...
But hey what can I do about that :D Nothing I think :)
Have a good day and happy posting..
