Is it ever really possible to make friends in adulthood with whom you can be as close and caring as with those you made as a child or during your teenage years. Are friendships bonded in times of mutual hormonal stress always going to be stronger?

Why not? its very much possible. In fact childhood friendship may get strayed but a friendship at mature age cold be ever lasting. Most of my good friends are from the time wen I started to work or my college days. Once we are adults we can do justice to the relationship more than when we are a child.
Thanks.

Of course it's possible to make close and caring friends in adulthood. In fact you will value the friendship more in adulthood, as it reaches to a sort of spiritual level. The bonding of the friendship whether in times of hormonal stress or any other circumstances is only the starting point. It is the continuity and test of friends through thick and thin which ultimatley determines true friendship.
