Buster's Cookie Jar

My beagle Buster loves his milk bones a lot. But he knows them best as "cookies". Well awhile back while shopping at a Dollar Store I saw this "cookie jar" and bought it. I can't recall but I think it was only $3 or so. It is ceramic and the lid has a bone shaped handle. Now I ask, "Buster want a cookie?" and he runs to the counter where he knows his cookies are. This jar also makes it easier for dad to get some cookies to stash in his pockets to feed Buster when I am not around. Do you have a jar for your dogs treats? Does your dog know their treats by any other name than the specific name? Thanks all.

My dog also loves his COOKIES. As a matter of fact, every dog on my street comes to my house for their cookies. The lady across the street was laughing as she told me she was keepin her granddaughter one day & her dog was laying in the yard at her feet sleeping. She told her granddaughter "let's go inside & get a cookie." She said her dog jumped up & ran to my door waggin her lil tail. She didn't understand why but I knew her dog wanted one of my cookies. As a matter of fact her dog used to come over frequently, knock on my door then sit up & beg with her front feet when I opened the door. How could I say no???

Too cute. I would need a truck load if I fed the neighbors dogs. This neaighborhood seems to be a dog loving neighborhood. One man 5 houses down has 4 dogs. In a 6 block area there must be 45 dogs.

I live on a small circle & only feed cookies to the immediate kids. It's only like 4 or 5 on any given day. Plus all the dogs are willing to protect me cuz they want their cookies.

I keep the treats in a bowl that my son made when he was in elementary school. Gus and Cookie know the word "biscuit" and will come running! They know, like Buster, where their treats are kept!

No we don't have a jar, his just stays in the box and he just knows them as treats and no other name. He used to love to go to the bank with us because they used to give the dogs a treat but have stopped that but he still likes to ride along anyway. A few fast food places here also give treats for the people with dogs in the car. When our dog hears the box, even if you try not to make any noise at all, he can still hear it and comes running for his treat.

We did the same for the longest time. But when I saw this jar I had to get it. Dad seldom would open the box to get cookies for Buster as he has a hard time opening boxes and closing them. This is easier for him as well as for Buster. Buster also would run hearing the box rattle etc.

That's adorable! Our lab Rose, gets a treat every time she goes potty outside (just so she'll never "forget") and she knows where they are. If you forget within the first minute those baleful eyes look up at the treat jar and then at you, the jar, then you.
We have a used plastic coffee can to keep her treats fresher. And keep it on top of the fridge (more to keep the kids from overfeeding her treats than to keep her out).

If you have any Dollar Stores near you, check them out for treats for your Rose. Also watch for jars such as this type. I've seen a few different ones at various Dollar Stores recently. So cute. Buster stares at the cookie jar as well waiting patiently for his cookie.

hi Grandpa Bob I havent been able to have a dog for years, but when we had our own house, I had my dog Swap, we got her at a
swap meet for three dollars.I had a special jar for her treats too.She would run over to the counter where I kept this old cookie jar for Swap and if you did not heed her she would give off with a loud bark, then a soulful woooof,as though her heart was just breaking. So of course she got her treats. I had not thought a bout that in ages.

Cute name as well. Great idea naming her SWAP.
Cute sounding. Buster doesn't bark.
He just gives us those sad "puppy" eyes.

I give Tina (my dog) home-cooked food. She gets an occasional biscuit, and she loves it. But we don't have a separate jar for it. :) She is quite used to bones and brown rice and broth. LOL
Cheers and happy mylotting

No we don't have a treat jar. He has a couple different boxes of treats right now though. We moved and he really likes his little backyard. We had to walk hime verywhere when we were in the condo. In fact, he likes the backyard so well, I'm bribing him with treats to get him back in the house. Stubborn little bugger. Kids you can drag back in, but the dran dog I can't catch. I left him out there today and there's that little face peeking in eventually.

When he runs from you, turn around and go the other way. Dogs come to what goes away from them. Do not play the I'm gonna grab you game or it'll get worse.

Hi GRANDPA BOB! Yes, we do have a glass container that is tightly sealed for our dogs' treats. we can't just use ceramic jars since the ants will surely invade it. haha..So, we just have glass containers that have tight lids. And whenever I take the glass jar out for them to see, they will be barking non stop until I give one each to them. However, I tease them until they keep on jumping on their feet. haha..
Take care always..God Bless!

This is too cute! i don't have a pet dog at the moment, so I don't have the need to buy a special cookie jar. When we had a dog before, we gave treats from the fridge. I know it's unhealthy, but we'd give Lulu a piece of chocolate or skittles; something that's not entirely dog food hehe. I think your Buster's a smart dog to have figured out where you keep his snacks.

Oh, bless him! My Mum has a little dog who knows all her toys by name. If she's asked to fetch them, she'll go to the right one and bring it - every time! Dogs are amazing, intelligent and great fun. It's a great idea having a personal biscuit jar for a pet.

That is so cute. With Sherlock all I have to do is ask him if he wants a yummy, and he starts getting excited and jumps around. Or if I'm in the kitchen and he can't even see me, he can hear me open his sack of "yummies", and he will come running. It is so funny that he can identify which sack I'm opening. I can open plenty of things in the kitchen, but he only comes running when he hears that particular sack open.

My dogs and cat's all know what a "snack" is, just like my kid's, I yell snack and it looks like the damn has burst and they are all running to keep from drowning, LOL. I keep my four legged kid's snacks on top of a white storage cabinet by the sliding glass door. I only allow all my kids to have a snack once a day,and it is after dinner, and before bedtime. If I haven't given my Momma cat Zipper her snack by say 10 at night, she will come crawl up my leg meowing, if that doesn't work, she trys to climb a wire storage bin that I keep the kids chips and stuff on that sits beside the cabinet. I really have some spoiled brats at my house, LOL. Blessings Marilyn

Hi Grandpa Bob,
I love the way Buster loves his cookies..
My dogs know about cookies too. They know after they go out and go potty, they get a cookie. I think sometimes they really don't have to go potty, they just want a cookie. They sure learn fast.
I added a pic of their several cookie jars and treats. In the jars are vegetable cookies, milk bone, pup corn, dog bakery cookies, and some other healthy treat I picked up. Their favorite, especially for Miss Precious Shelby, is chicken jerky.
The dang stuff runs $13.00 a bag at Walmart and with five dogs, it doesn't last all that long.(they are only allowed one a day) That's ok though, if we are a little short on the finances for the week, we'll go without something to make sure the pups have their jerky treat!
[i]Happy MyLotting,

They aren't spoiled, are they????

That is so funny... I have had a Min Pin for 10 years. I keep having to change the name of food or treats to have a discussion with people. He knows cookies, treats, biscuits, as well as, hungry, breakfast, lunch, dinner, eat.... too smart for his mommy. So if you have any ideas for new words let me know
