Will computers and mobile phones become one and the same?

As new phones are released their abilities grow far beyond that of just an instrument of verbal communication. I send as many emails and surf as many sites on my phone these days as I do on my computer. How much further can all this technology go? What new thing do you think they will add next?

it's a valid idea but i don't think so. because some people don't want that much on a phone. and if they have a computer they want it bigger than a phone. yes there are clearly those who want a computer phone and they will continue to buy them. you ask what new thing could come next? i've heard that already in japan cell phones pay for the product you buy out of a vending machine. as well as pay for a train ticket so you don't have to carry cash. it should be coming our way soon.

Personally I am one of those that love all the new bells and whistles, I love checking emails when stuck in a queue, or putting last minute ebay bids in whilst doing my supermarket shop. Wow @ the new japanese inventions, sounds handy for me, I am always a coin short of that vending machine coffee !

You can already buy phones which play music, send emails, search the web and you can even listen to radio and watch moves on some of them. I think hand held devices which do all of these and more will become more popular, but not everyone needs to have them and most poeple want their own desktop computer or laptop in addition to their more portable devices. As most phones already have cameras in them I think the next development will enable us to see who we are speaking to as we talk into our mobile phones.

It all depends on a each individual's need... My mother still has a small t.v. with dials on it in her badroom... She refuses to buy a bigger t.v. or even want a t.v. with a remote control for her room... Point is, I do believe there will come a day that a cell. phone & a computer will merge... It's not going to be for everyone... But then again, only about a decade or so ago, cell. phone in itself wasn't really for everyone like it is today... There always will be a basic version of phones & computers as their counter parts, then there will be a phone with not equal to but close enough to features & capabilities of a computer built into it... And some people will always find a need for a phone like that... Who'd thought we'd get as far as we did today... Sending an "email" & "surfing the web" was thought to be only for the computers... Now with all the blackberries & smart phones, it's a 2nd nature to those phones...

its possible i think...nothing is impossible in technology field... in early days, computers used vacuum tubes and are very very large and produced lots of heat...they almost occupied a room... in that time nobody would have thought that there can be a computer like the one we are working....every thing in a single small chip....they wouldn't have thought it even in their dreams.... that is what the situation now... NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE Thanks, Sri

I don't think they will be adding much to cell phones for some time. If anything they will just increase the interfaces of the phones, increase the number of MegaPixels in the camera, make internet more reliable and quicker, smaller features added ( like sony ericsson has the trackid that tells you the song that is playing if u dont know the name of it ), and making them smaller and more compact at the same time.
