Anyone seen this article on internet trolls from the NYT? It's got an interesting (and long) discussion about trolls and their habits: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/03/magazine/03trolls-t.html?_r=2&hp=&pagewanted=all Of course, the actual "logic" used by the trolls infuriated me. They seem to be really into the blame-the-victim game. There is a point at which simple words cross a line into harassment--once someone steals your credit card or social security number, that is unacceptable. Thoughts?

If someone online insults you, just do what I do. Flip 'em the bird and walk away.

hi movicont I think this is just outrageous, they hurt people'and dont even care. Tolls always have infuriated me, as they dont 'care about anything but themselves and their sick little games. bad enough when they play them on mylot but this stuff is way sicker. outrageous is one word for it.

Yeah, myLot is actually a relatively tame community. I've seen way worse at /b/--quite annoying, but I suppose the best thing you can do is not let it get to you. Thanks for your comment!

These disturbed people have always been around. It is just that now the Net has given them a voice It is up to us whether to listen or not.

Yes, that's true. And I'm loathe to follow a troll's advice, but it's true that the best thing we can do is to ignore them. Their influence will certainly die down if we do.
