Thus far it was Iron Man. I've always been a fan and Robert Downy did a tremendous job in the role. It had just enough humor to be enjoyable and the action was spectacular. As for a close runner up it would be Hell Boy II. Hell Boy and Abe singing Neil Diamond made me laugh so hard I cried.

My favorite movie that I saw in theaters this year is a toss-up. My grown up favorite was Atonement. I'm pretty sure that actually went into theaters in late 2007, but I didn't see until February of this year, so I'm counting it. It was so beautiful and haunting. The score, with that typewriter sound as some sort of percussion, was absolutely perfect. And James MacAvoy? Now one of my favorite actors, thanks to one of the last scenes in the film.
My other favorite is, without a doubt, Wall-E. My son was crazy about it before it even hit theaters, thanks to Disney's brilliant marketing, so we took him and my daughter to see it. I think it's possibly Pixar's best movie to date. It was so incredibly moving, yet funny. And it had a great commentary on our obsession with consumerism. One of the most heartwarming things I've ever seen.

The Dark Knight and it is not just because this is Heath Ledger's last completed project. The movie is thought provoking especially with Ledger's Joker performing his human experiments for his crime. The Joker's acting, pardon the pun, is to die for. The other characters like batman, two-face, commissioner gordon, and all add up to an exciting ensemble acting where all roles are played really, really well.
