Watching Rachel Ray--Have you ever tried to cook any of her recipes?

I am a Food Network lover. I love learning about new dishes and watching Rachel Ray prepare various entrees. I've got 2 of her cookbooks--The 30 Minute Meals 2 and the 30 Minute Meals Get togethers. I must admit, I've made several recipes out of each of them. It usually takes me 45 minutes to an hour to cook one of her 30 minutes meals (no kidding). Last night, I made her "TV dinner for 2" Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes. My husband had a fit, it was so good! Anyhoo, have you ever cooked one of Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals? How did it turn out? Do you have a Rachel Ray favorite meal? If so, which one is it?

I have never read any of her cookbooks and have never tried any of her recipes but I have however tried some of her methods of cooking. When she talks about how she makes her "stoups" stew and soup, I have done that. She also gave me the idea to make the mini meatloafs and I think I made some potatoes. So basically I watch her show and pick up on some of her tips and make my own recipe. I would never be able to get one of her meals on the table in 30 minutes. She lives in a perfect kitchen where there are she always has all the ingredients and tools right were she can find them. I could take me 10 minutes to hunt down a can of tomatoes in my pantry. She also doesn't have kids interupting her or have to stop to break up a fight or put a dvd on for a kid. Also I have noticed that her phone never rings when she is cooking. So I'm with you I would proably get it done in about 40 minutes.

Hi pam210. It sounds like you are pretty innovative in the kitchen! I've never tried a stoup and when I try to cook something without a recipe, it usually doesn't taste all that good. So, I just make it a habit to cook recipes I know or follow new recipes I want to try. You are definitely right about Rachel Ray's kitchen. Everything is right there at her fingertips. And everything around her is a controlled situation. Thanks for commenting and do take care.

I know that I have made a few things I have seen on her show before, but I cannot think of any of them off the top of my head. Your Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes sounds pretty good. I like to watch Rachel Ray, but half the time I do not like what she is cooking.

Hi lilybug. It's too bad that you don't usually like what she's cooking. I've prepared several of her meals and my husband pretty much goes ape over them. I do like the fact she uses alot of fresh ingredients, including fresh herbs. I just don't have those little elves in my kitchen that line up everything I need to prepare a particular meal like she does!

I have made a glaze of hers with honey and orange juice. I think I used it on duck. I also made one of her sundaes. I probably should make her meals. The one I was interested in was the you wont be single for long pasta. I printed the recipie for that. Her stuff really does look good though. I just dont want to buy alot of ingedients.

Hello snowy22315. Hm, that glaze sounds good. I don't think I made the "You Won't Be Single for Long Pasta" but I've seen her make that one. My husband loves pretty much every one of her dishes that I've ever prepared. There are 3 or 4 of them that are our "old standby" meals now. I love all the fresh herbs she uses with the fresh vegetables. Thanks for sharing.

I've cooked a lot of her recipes - either from the show or from her books (I have two as well). Some of them I've made in less than 30 minutes - I rarely exceed 30 minutes. I think it takes you longer because you have to read the recipe? I don't really know. I don't really have an issue with cooking and time - it doesn't take me long to cook my meals. I think it's all about efficiency and not having down time - i.e. while this is simmering/sauteing, get this and that ingredient - if you have more time, get to chopping - that kind of stuff. But I really like her ideas and her recipes are simple and yummmy. Have a good one!

You must be very efficient. I work to keep all the processes going for all the dishes but still, I end up carrying over timewise. I always tell my husband I need a kichen prep person like Rachel Ray to place every ingredient I'll need in the front of the cabinets and refrigerator to speed things up! Take care.
