My daughters went to the pound today looking for a new dog for our new home. We want to save one from being killed and the one my daughter had her heart set on was adopted, she was upset but happy that it went to a good home, now for my question, would you be more willing to adopt a dog from the pound to keep it from being killed or would you rather get a pup from a breeder or pet store??

I refuse to patronize pet store, they support the puppy mills that mistreat the poor mama dogs and neglect the puppies who so often arrive at the store sick. I have always gotten my dogs from the pound and they've been wonderful companions. I won't patronize breeders, I don't agree with breeding a dog for certain characteristics even when it's at the cost of its health. I don't like breeders! Both my dogs are rescues and I couldn't ask for better friends!

we actually foster dogs for an animal shelter where we live and adopt them out.. the majority of them are taken from breeders who just surrender them its awful to see some of the conditions of these breeders.. we actually adopted a bernese mountain dog mix that we were fostering and he is a great dog

I'm so glad you're doing that! The owners of puppy mills should be kept in the same condition as they keep their dogs. People like that don't deserve the air they breathe.

Honestly even though i have bought a dog from a pet store myself i do agree with you. the only reason we got him is because my son was so in love with this dog, and he is now my sons best friend. He is a cavalier king charles mixed with a lhasa apso. But i worked for a pet shop for a year of my life and saw so many puppies come sick. One i felt so very sorry for came in with hook worm. we were not even allowed to take the dog out of the cage just give him food, I kept asking what are you going to do with the puppy , and they refused to answer i often wounder if they put that puppy down. I also saw alot of min pins come in so sick and so small, they where taken from there mothers to soon. I would not say all breeders are bad are german sheperd came from a breader and they where kept in great conditions , we where allowed to see everything, and they where great people who loved there dogs. so i would not say all breeders are bad.

lol i know i know me to , i hate seeing them like that and like i told the person below who comented , i work for a pet shop. I know they came in from puppy mills and i know alot came in sick. I do no all about puppy mills but it does not stop me from wanting to save them all. not to support puppy mills, But because i love all animals and hate seeing them all behind that glass and want to take um home and let them play like they should. I have seen to many dogs sit behind glass till they where 6months old. I find that so sad. I stoped working there because they would not tell me what happens to the pups that dont sell. I was angry about that. I do agree with the persons comment below about puppy mills. But i have been to shelters where the dogs where not keept in the best condition either, granted there not breeding dogs there but they where keeping the dogs in some confined crappy conditions. I person belive they all should be saved dogs from pound, breeders, petshops i guess that is just the animal lover in me. If i could i would take every single one home with me.
