Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my dog?

I have a 9 month-old pitt bull and she recently (about a month ago) started falling over. She would be walking fine and then she would just fall over. The last couple of weeks she got worse to where she couldn't even stand up anymore. She lays around all day long. Can't hold her bowels. Spent HUNDREDS at the vet for them to take guesses at what it MIGHT be, but I feel really bad about having her like this. I can tell that she's not happy and the other day I decided to have her put down. The vet made me reverse that decision in favor of steroids and antibiotics. She's been on them for three days with no improvement at all. I just don't know what to do anymore.

My two dogs were poisoned and they couldnt stand or control their bladders at all after a while. So maybe it could be something the dog ate? I dont think that you should put her down though. There is still hope that she may get better and I think that you should hold on to that hope as long as you can. What does the vet think that it is?

The vet has actually said that he doesn't know what it is or what it could be. The way the "disease" progressed was too quick for anything he knows about. She can't walk but she's not paralized completely. I don't really know if it could be poisoning. They (her and her brother) have always eaten the same thing out of the same bowl so shouldn't he have gotten sick too? I don't want to have her put down, but I can't afford many more tests and that's what's making me feel the worst. I always felt that if you couldn't afford to take care of an animal then you shouldn't have it, but how was I supposed to know that even the Vet wouldn't be able to tell me what was wrong with my baby girl?

Is the dog an outside dog? Someone could've fed her something that was bad, not neccessarily something in the food dish. I think you need a new vet because that is really weird that a vet would have no idea.

I am also beginning to wonder about this vet. Many people have told me that he is great but if he really has NO CLUE what's wrong with my dog then I guess he's not the vet for her. No, she doesn't go outside. She doesn't like to be outside for some reason. She's been that way all of her nine months of life. At this point in her sickness I really think that I need to come to grips with the fact that I have to have her put down. She's lost all muscle tone in her legs and now she's losing weight at a very rapid pace. Her front legs are causing her pain, which just started a few days ago, and she just looks miserable. I feel bad but I kinda feel that at this point that would be the most humane way to go.

My puppy got sick like that and I called the animal hopstial, told them what was going on, and they said it was (not sure if I'm saying this right) parvo. The puppy was very hot to the touch, wouldn't eat or drink very much, and whined all the time. I hope you puppy gets better, I hate to see any animal in pain.

Yeah thats what i was going to say parvo. no offense to you but i can not belive they let you take the dog home in a condition like that , with no answers for you. but it could be parvo, something is makeing his balance to be thrown off that could be why he lays down all the time ,i know gitting into to antifreez will do that , and wont show up in blood work. also parvo could be the cause or a brain tumor. i would go to a diffrent vet, or try a regular vet hospital , hope your baby is ok, keep us informed

It's NOT Parvo. She's had all her boosters and what not and she's already been tested for that. I know it's not anything chemical related because she's my baby girl and I rarely have let her outside. She just got done with all of her shots right before this started happening so she hasn't been outside a lot. No Brain Tumor either. She's had plenty of x-rays done to let me know that's not a possibility. She's not completely paralized though. She can still feel things in her legs. She has sensation and she moves them every now and then. She just can't walk.

If itsarvo the dog's lifewill not last for a day after falling down. Maybe there's a kind of protozoa in its body, try to look at the crop if it has bubbles.

You did not say what tests the Vet performed. It could be anything from hip displaysia to a brain tumor. In either case she needs treatment. Maybe a better Vet. I take back the hip displaysia. She's only nine months old so that isn't likely. I'd have a series of x-rays done to look for a brain tumor. I hope that isn't the problem. I'm sorry that your' baby is so sick. That's such a hard thing to go through. I wish you well.

The Vet, who is supposed to be one of the best in my area, did four or five x-rays and couldn't find anything. Nothing at all. That's where he got confused. He thought that it might have been Post Distemper Paralysis, but we have been treating her with Steroids and antibiotics for over a week now and there has been no response from her. If anything she's gotten worse. The Vet said (like you did) that it could be a number of different things. My only problem is that I can't afford what I'm paying them now for them to GUESS at what it might do. Today at 11:00 she goes back to the vet so we shall see.
