I believe there is, but not in our solar system. Somewhere far, far away, where we will never go, there is a planet of creatures just like us that are wondering the same thing. I think that the universe is too big not to have life forms other than Earth in it. I love questions like this that have to deal with life outside of Earth, just because it really makes you think about how special we are aznd how special life is. So yes, I believe that there is life on other planets, but will never know for sure.

I once heard an astronomer say that "the probability that life exists out there is almost certian, but, the chances of us ever seeing that life are probably near zero".
this makes sense, given the vast size of the universe and the vast distances just between stars in a galaxy alone. One can think of it in these terms. Think of the ocean. Place 2 colonies of ameba's in it. even if there are millions of ameba's, what are the chances the 2 colonies of them will ever encounter each other? the size difference is so great that the distance between each would prevent them from ever crossing paths.
