A boy in the crowd

Some time ago, i saw a little boy in a crowd of people at a large gathering near my house. He was a small boy, and dressed normally, with the exception of cowboy boots.
My trouble was that everyone around him was laughing at the fact that he was wearing them... Im sure before the boy went out in public with his mother, he thought he was cool wearing those boots, yet only to be shot down by the swarm effect of people who thought he was "lame" or "dorky". I felt horrible seeing the little boy look so unhappy about his decision to wear the boots he surely was proud of.
The group of people i was with even made rude remarks, to which i responded telling them to be quiet and support the kid. I respected him for doing what he wanted in spite of being different. If only more people saw it the same way, maybe the boy would have went home with his head held high, and more eager to celebrate his independence in the world.
Instead, the world showed me its ugly face towards difference.
My message is this, to everyone reading, support those who are different, because they are the only ones who will ever make a change in this world. If everyone is exactly like everyone else, no progress will be made.Celebrate individuality amongst everyone, and never put someone down for doing their own thing. Because now a small child went home feeling bad about his small decision to be different.
Basically, have a heart.
I challenge people to be different, be as brave as that little boy, and look adversity in the face without flinching. Follow his example, and do something great.

That was so wonderfully written! Thank you!
My 5 year old loves his red cowboy boots...he loved his blue ones too but they are too small now. He's definitely outside the norm in his choice of clothing but I don't care. He is happy and that's all that matters.
Around here cowboy boots aren't all that unusual so I don't think they'd even be noticed. I can think of other situations that would compare though.
It's refreshing to hear from someone who feels the way you do. I'm glad you shared this with us.

Thank you very much =]
It breaks my heart to see the innocent shot down by horrible things like people who judge so easily =[
So easy to judge, harder to understand, why cant others just take the hard but rewarding road for once?

My heart felt so heavy for the little boy. I hope you were able to tell him how wonderful his boots were. I dont know why people have to be so meen. Who says we cant wear or do something diffrent. People would ask me for a long time why I wore blue eye shadow as it was "out" for a long time. I would always say because I like blue and I am wearing it. Now blue is back in, at least I think. Anyway if people cant say something nice, please dont say anything.
