We have chosen a first name for our son. Aiden. But there are a variety of ways to spell it. Aidan, or Aidon (ick).Aaden,Aeden etc. The list goes on. Now she wanted a sister. And in the past few days at 5 years old has come to a decision. "Mommy, I will love my baby brother, but can his name be 4 letters like mine?" ADYN I just can't. What do you think? My hubbys choice is AIDEN. I think that's the way to go.

t is cute that your daughter had that idea but I do not know how that would go over. I like the choice of your husbands.

Honestly, I would go with the spelling that will be recognized by people he deals with in his life. I've worked with so many kids with so many spellings of their names, it's a hassle that never goes away. I like unusual names, don't get me wrong, but don't like the multitude of spellings that go with them.

I like Aiden best. Making it shorter just looks a little funny. Aden looks better to me than Adyn if you really want to try for 4 letters though.

It is nice, is it not, that she is taking an interest. I is cute to see how her mind works, wanting the child to have the same number of letters in her name as she does. Adyn. Hrm. No, I don't think that looks right. Aaden, Aeden, Aiden. Hard to tell.

Before my youngest was born my daughter asked me what I was naming him. His name is Mathieu, pronounced like Matthew. Well she said to me that makes no sense, I should name him something like Surf Boy, because it makes more sense.

I think Aiden is the best way to spell it. I can just picture it now, everyone mis pronouncing his name because of the spelling. Your safest best is to stick with the 5 letters. I would just tell her its 4 letters. Im not sure how old she is, but if you can avoid telling her the way its spelled even better. By the time she gets older I think shell be old enough to not care about the spelling of the name.

I think AIDEN is the best way to write the name. AYDN is a little wierd and people might think that it is strange. But the choise is all urs.

How old is your daughter?Maybe you can trick her by saying that it only takes 4 letters to spell Aiden? If she's too smart for that, then just let her choose her own special nick name for her baby brother. That would be a thrill even for an oldie like me. She can call him by any 4-letter word and it will be just her. :) Aiden's a lovely name by the way!
