If so when was the last time you encountered it? Personally it wasn't directly toward me but i was with a friend and she was going to pay her car note. A w.man was there to pay his also and the owner of the car place asked him about his wife. He just got red a said she ran off with that ol blk N. I was just threw back literally i mean like when he said it i just involuntarily took a few steps back. Well to make a long story short I left out because my temper is really bad but my friend said a few words too him a he ended up apologizing.

Not only do I think racism still exists against blacks I believe it exists against whites as well. I also believe discrimination against women, children, the obese and all other people who are not considered to be the majority still exists. We speak of equal rights but still have laws such as employee at will that allow employers to terminate someone simply because they don't like the person. I would like to see all forms of discrimination gone, permanently. Sorry you and your friend encountered such as insensitive person.

It's sad but so true. Recently a large group of us went to an Outback Steakhouse in Detroit. We called ahead since usually its hard for restaurants to seat us and we explained that were a group of 28 and could they seat us in 7 tables of 4. It was a weeknight so we were told yes. When we got there, the young black host just looked at us and said "I didn't know it was 28 white people!" I just smirked and said well my money is green can I come in? Then he started making excuses about how they didn't have enough waitresses to accomodate us (even though the place was pretty empty) and how the cook was going to take a long time. I asked why he hadn't told me that when I called. Well to make a long story short, I chided him on his discriminatory actions which the manager overheard (a young black man also) and he came running to the rescue. He sat us, apologized profusely and made sure the service and food was excellent. The host later came and apoligized as well and offered to pick up our tab. I didn't let him, I just told him to learn from his mistake and to watch what he says in the future. I still left a bit sad though, knowing that even though we've come a long way, we still have such a long way to go.

As a black woman, I am so embarrassed by the actions of that Host. Remarks like that are not acceptable by anyone, and he would be looking for another job, if I had a say so in the matter.

Racism refers to beliefs, practices, and institutions that discriminate against people based on their perceived or ascribed "race;” Even though it has been many years since the abolition of slavery and it has been forty years since the ending of segregation racism still exists in the classrooms, in the offices, and out on the streets.

Lets get an understanding We aren't making a big deal out of it till we are called a N****. We know that we are Negroes and have no problem with that. You must not know where the word derived from and how it was used in the slavery days. We have a right to be sensitive to such a word and anyone else would too if there ancestors went through the same thing!! Well with that said We shouldn't be ashamed of anything. I'm not here to go through the history books with you but thanks for your comment. I fully disagree with you though which is also a right that I have!!!!

Yes, racism is definitely alive and kicking. As simple as it is to live together in harmony there are many people who would like to keep the hatred going. The first and only time I was called a "N" was when I was driving out of the parking lot of an Annie Sez store. I pulled out far enough to be able to look to my right and left. An old lady on a cane was walking down the street, looked at me and said you can't drive "N" I was truly surprised as to why she felt she had to make a comment to me, and a nasty one at that. Yes racism still exists. I think racism will never die. Children are taught it, they teach their children so on and so on.

Whenever I come back to my first home in Pomona. Pomona, California can be a very racist place. The majority of people in the city are Latino. Whites, Blacks, Asians, and Native American are minorities. It seems like if you are not a Latino then you will never fit in.

Sadly I think racism does exist. No one has ever called me an N word to my face and I don't know how I'd react if they did. My first inclination would be to punch them but as I am disabled that is not very likely. However, people of color do get paid less than white men who do the same job. I mean the same exact job. Even for things like university professors. So I think that is a clear example of racism. Also if you have ever been in the South of the United States people will still fly rebel flags which was an example of the Confederacy where they still wanted to keep slaves.

Racism most definitely still exists. Have you ever been to a high school or college campus? It's pretty segregated with the different races mainly sticking with their own. At my college, I was friends with everyone despite the color of their skin and one of my best friends is black. I think its very sad considering how shallow people are when it comes to race.

It still exists in Indonesia, to chinese minority here. For about 35years, chinese here were not allowed to show their culture in public, use chinese language in public, forced to change their chinese name into indonesian name, forced to show the proof of citizenship everytime we involve with public sector to get official papers. Eventhough, the discriminative regulation has been cancelled, in practice, it is not going to the same way. In the last 10 years, the discrimination action has decreased significantly, however, the feeling of hate still exists inside.

yes racism still extists, in minesota there is a lot of racism. one thing that ive noticed though are that people are more racist when their around there friends. for example someone would be much more likely to say a racist term when there hanging out with their friends rather that if their just by themselves. im sorry to hear about your friend,
im not african american, but im not racist either.

u can see racism also in here europe most governments say that they are against racism but actually they are doing by themselves. citizens are more peaceful i think but governments like france they really do racism to their colonys citizens they make different school for them they build different living areas in the suburbs of cities so they are actually trying to differ them from their own citizens :S

I think racism is just a natural, involuntary reaction towards our fear of the unknown. Where i live, we don't have much black people, and the perception we recieve of them from the media is that theyre 'gangsters' and won't hesitate to commit crime. This becomes something that i involuntary associate with every time i meet someone black, and my first impression is often biased because of this. I know it's wrong, but I can't help it. I'd sooner trust a white man than a black man because of this, unless i get to know them better.

I think racism is very ugly indeed-I see it being thrown about in the American elections-dont be surprised when it turns out that most of the white Democrats will surport Obama in ralleys but vote for Mccaine come November 4th!

Dear friend,
It exists but I could know it through news and other media informations. But in our place more than racism as similar one exits like caste system which is now coming to better stages and government policies has giving a helping hand for those below level casts and economically weaker class. I never seen or experienced any racism in our place. But I had seen in video where a black man was beaten badly in news and through news only I had information that it still exists.

Yes because a lot still became a victim of it. Sad to know about this. Because my heart breaks when i heard stories about racism. God created all men equal. But others still treated others unfairly.

Of course it exists. There will never be a time in human history that it doesn't. We have proven this over and over again, can't help ourselves I think. It is unfortunate but true what we don't know we fear.
I think it will get worse for a while also. The fact is that with the economy tanking racism will rear its head in a big way.

If anyone says that Racism is not there today I am sure the person is not from this planet. We find subtle exhibition of racism right from the childhood. But I believe even a lot of mature individuals show some form of racism at times.
if one sits to list out the examples of racism the list would never end. I believe rather than looking at the examples of racism its much better to talk about how it can be dealt with.
I am of the opinion that any for of racism should be severely punished. And the person found guilty of the crime should be made to do social service for the rest of his life. I understand its important for the person to realize his mistake and if it can be done without a punishment then I am very well in support of it.
