I think "working model for maths" is quite a wide range of selections.
If it's artithmetic, I'd make a abacus to demonstrate ops like decimal additions with carry ...
If it's trigonometry, I'd use a protractor to show elevation angles and ruler to show the opposite angles ... e.g. use fixed "unit" hypothenuse with ruler on opposite side...and compare readings to results from sine function.
If it's calculus, I'd stick to a portion of a curve y=f(x) e.g. x1 to x2 and use approximations of the length of that curve i.e. increments in x from 1 down to e.g. .001 etc..
