I heard sayings about Meditation but i dont know whats the exact definition of it. People says Meditation is NOT Concentration Meditation is NOT Relaxation Meditation is NOT a serious religious practice Meditation is NOT a state of mind Meditation is NOT a self-hypnosis Meditation is NOT thinking Then what is meditation? Would I get to know whats a meditation or would i wonder whole life in finding its definition ?

very interesting topic. I am no expert in meditation. I hope to learn about meditation. I think meditation is about temporarily shutting off six out of the seven connections: - phy - pretend I exist without a body. - int - pretent I have no thoughts. - soc - I am with no other person. - psych - I do not feel. - ecol - I pretend I am not on earth. - econ - I turn off my mobile phone :) (or seriously, I have no affiliation to matter) It seems what is left is a spiritual connection... after all it is said : "We are not physical beings having a spititual experience. We are spiritual beings having a physical experience." Cheers :) I'd love to hear your comments :)

Ruperto, in meditation we are the most conscious, we feel the maximum, we become one with nature, we feel good continuously.

mdalia, meditation is a process of feeling happy with our body and nature. When we feel happy without the use of an article which cost money, we are meditating. During meditation we are kind of consciously sleeping. When we sit on a beach or on mountain and no thinking cross our mind except beautiful smell or sunrise or sunset or waves of see and we feel happiness, we are meditating.

Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. Buddhist meditation practices are techniques that encourage and develop concentration, clarity, and emotional positivity. By engaging with a particular meditation practice one learns the patterns and habits of the mind, and the practice offers a means to cultivate new, more positive ways of being. With discipline and patience these calm and focused states of mind can deepen into profoundly tranquil and energised states of mind. Such experiences can have a transformative effect and can lead to a new understanding of life.

The word meditation, is derived from two Latin words : meditari(to think, to dwell upon, to exercise the mind) and mederi (to heal). Its Sanskrit derivation 'medha' means wisdom. Many years ago meditation was considered something just not meant for modern people, but now it has become very popular with all types of people. Published scientific and medical evidence has proved its benefits, but it still needs to be much understood.

Meditation can have many definitions but it has to b experienced. It is nothing but sitting relaxed and accepting all the activity within the body and around us .... but we tend to get restless initially to sit even for 2 minutes so we need to calm the mind and body through techniques like pranayama ( breath related) , mantras ( sound related) or some vigorous physical activity .... then one can relax and feel oneself in meditation . You can try it by doing an art of living course available worldwide in all cities ... www.artoflving.org

An ordinary person may consider meditation as a worship or prayer. But it is not so. Meditation means awareness. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. Watching your breath is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation.Meditation is not a technique but a way of life. Meditation means 'a cessation of the thought process' . It describes a state of consciousness, when the mind is free of scattered thoughts and various patterns . The observer (one who is doing meditation) realizes that all the activity of the mind is reduced to one.
