Cable TV

Now that I am calmer you can now be advised that I'm paying $30 extra a month for the stations that a cable company transferred to digital. Does everyone remember seeing that commercial saying if you are on cable that you don't have to worry about the transfer from anolog to digital signals in Feb. 09? Well, you do! We've been fighting with the cable company since last Wed. It took over a week to get it where I could record my shows. First we got the digital receivers: We couldn't record the digital shows with the VCR's because the VCR's are analog. More yelling at the cable company. I'll tell you what, the cable people don't have a clue. It took a tv repairman to tell us our VCR's wouldn't pick up those digital stations. Now I have 2 DVR's that cost $15 each. They will record my tv shows. The will record 2 shows at the same time. I'm a happy camper now. I get my cable shows and my husband is crying about the cost. I just said, "Wait till they take your shows." He stopped fussing.

We get 1 channel and sometimes 3. It depends on the weather. I only use the television for background noise. If I can't get them then I will put in a dvd or cd. I'm not really losing much if I can not get the analog channels. However we subscribe to satellite programming during the winter when we are not outside as much. But I can say that I do not like this sort of change. There are going to be many people who can not afford or understand how to upgrade and will be cut off from the local news. Maybe radio will make a comeback.

Haven't you heard? Radio is trying to become digital? That's what Sirius radio and clear channel (which owns a lot of radio stations) is all about.

There are a lot of radio stations. Anyone can start one in their home. I doubt they will ever be 100% obsolete. I've recently started to listen to AM radio because I am sick of hearing the same songs that I never wanted to hear ever day and tired of flipping through the channels.

I remember seeing that commercial quite a bit. We have satellite and I have also seen quite a few commercials telling us that we don't have to worry about anything. I don't have any DVR's, we don't have the money for those. I will be happy if I can come up with the money to start renting movies again. I don't watch all that much television, I watch more movies than anything. So I don't think we will have any problems with our televisions.

To receive television in Feb 09 all you will need is the digital receiver, which thru my cable company is $5 per each one. One can get a coupon from the government to get help purchasing one from a retailer who sells them. I don't have all the information on that because I went thru the cable company, which is what got me started on this rant anyway. So in Feb 09 I hope you have lots of money for movies because you won't get any stations without a digital receiver. I don't think a lot of people know what's coming down the pike in Feb 09. It will be a rude awakening when the American people wake up one morning and they can't get their televisions to work.
