i don't really have problems whenever i have my monthly period. no stomach pains, no mood swings, etc. but during my last "period", i did have much stomach cramp and took some ibuprofen for the pain. it worked though after a few minutes and it wasn't fun at all. anyway, what do most of you do whenever you have such pain during your monthly visit? what are better ways to take away the pain aside from pain killers?

I hate PMS. I do have problems and always end up using a heating pad and laying down and taking a few Advil to help. NOthing else works for me but Ibuprofen type pills. Tylenol doesn't help me at all. But all we can do is try to get comfortable as possible because if your not it can and will be worse for you. Maybe you should go to a doctor since you had a abnormal pains with your period. I had a shirt once that said I suffer from PMS! which the PMS! was huge and under the letters in smaller print it read P= putting up with M=Men's S=Shi.t!. I always liked that shirt it got a few laughs..

I never used a heating pad, but I do like to bundle up under the covers and get warm. Being able to relax like this has always helped me with the pain, even if it doesn't take it away completely.

that's a funny shirt! i hope i can get one, too. one day, maybe? anyway, i never tried heating pads as well like sacmom here. i also just crawl under the sheets on our bed until i get warmed and comfortable. anyway, i can just relax and stay on the bed for awhile until the pain goes away. that's a great idea. but i am worried. what if it happens when i am in school? i hate skipping classes just because i don't feel good. i will surely still sit in class but will be so annoyed. i might just bring ibuprofen pills with me then. thanks for the help!

A hot bath always helps me if it's really bad. Otherwise a heat pad. I used to be incapacitated for a day every month, but since I had a baby, I haven't had any period pain. I'd recommend trying other things first though, as having a baby is a rather expensive cure with a lot of side effects ;)

I think if you can get the area really warm, the shower would be just as good. It is lovely that your partner is so caring about you. Thank you very much for the best response.

Try reading a book or magazine in the bath, or doing a crossword or some other puzzle. You need to relax, and if you get bored, that's not relaxing. You could try sitting under the shower and just letting the water fall on you, but I think a bath works better. If you are looking for a quick fix, I actually prefer using a hot water bottle than a heat pad. I don't know why, but it seems to help more. Good luck!

I've had some painful menstrual cramping before, but I've never taken anything for the pain. After a few hours the pain usually subsides for me. I don't like relying medications for something like that, but that's just me. Now if I was sick with a fever, I would take my medicine like a good girl. LOL One thing I noticed was that if I eat junk food a day or so before my period is due I would cramp up terribly. So now I try my best to avoid such foods before my period is due. I haven't had any horrible cramps in a few years now.

that's good for you. i hope you won't be suffering from pain anymore in your next menstrual visits. anyway, i tried not to take pills at first but i did it anyway since it was too painful for me. the pain subsided after a few minutes and i really felt relieved!

I had my first menstrual period when I was about eleven or twelve years old. Admittedly, I used to feel uneasy and had dysmenorrhea whenever I go through it. But I refrain from taking any medicines as I believe that somehow, it will have an effect on my body or to my resistance to illnesses now or in the future. There was even an instance when I was in my fifth grade where I really had a difficult experience because of this. Some of my cousins came here in the city to visit us. Summer vacation had just started. And on one of those days, we had a 'cold refreshments splurge', including ice cream, ice candy (hardened shake in a plastic container), and citrus fruits. I wasn't able to calculate that I was about to have my monthly period then. I kept on eating cold foods and sour fruits (guava in particular) and as a result, my stomach ached and ached. All throughout the summer, I wasn't able to enjoy myself because I was practically in bed. I even thought that I will not be able to attend school the following school year, which was my sixth grade. After almost a month of taking medicines given by the doctor, I got well but I definitely became skinny. I spent the remaining month of the summer getting my healthy body then. I recall the doctor telling me that a guava is more sour than calamansi and my body was sensitive to sour fruits and foods. Now, I don't get those cramps and uneasiness that much anymore ever since my husband and I got married more than five years ago. Anyway, it's adviseable that one refrains from doing heavy tasks, and taking cold or sour foods.

I also suffer with the same problem but mine is every monthly visit I feel too much pain specially on my first day. My grand mother told me not to eat sour food and drink like pineapple juice and sour oranges because she said that it can increase the pain and I can take not cold soft drinks and I must not drink cold drink specially with ice. I don't know if my grand mother beliefs are true or not but I follow everything that she said.
