Okay so my sister, her boyfriend and their 6 month old twins are moving back home. We are super excited for that. My mom owns a few homes, and she told my sister that if she comes home she would have one of the homes ready for her to move into and rent out. Well my sister is all for that she quits her job gets her house ready to put on the market in San Francisco, and basically has the moving company coming to move her stuff up to Seattle. Her boyfriend will be on tour (He is in a band) for a few months and then home for the holidays then he is out touring for a year. So she calls my mom and says Okay I will be moving in on the 1st of september. My mom says OKay I will tell the guy who is living there now that he needs to move. Well she goes over there to tell him and then calls me up the next day to say she has to talk with me. She goes through this whole song and dance about how she can not throw out this guy and how the lady who is renting the basement apartment that they are now a family and though they had problems before and he is not willing to sign a lease she just did not have the heart to say anything to him. So she wants me to say it is okay and that we can just have my sister and her family of 4 move in with her. Okay my mom and my sister have the same personality and they absolutely can not live together. Even when my sister had her twins, my mom was there for even just less than a week and my sister wanted her to just fly back home. YEAH it was bad. My mom called me crying about how terrible things were and she just did not want to be there. Now my mom says how she does not understand why my sister would not want to live with her. (CRAZY) Finally I get my mom to just talk to the guy after she goes through this whole sob story about things we tell my sister my sister says she is now not going to move, we get my poor dad involved (My parents are divorced). He offers to pay the guy $1000 to move out just to sweeten the deal a bit in case he complains about having to pay for moving and the like. So after a day of drama, finally she goes and talks to the guy and the guy is happy to move out....I do not know all the details but everything is fine now, and my mom is acting like the drama never took place and how we all misunderstood her and it is just CRAZY...Then she calls my Dad to explain how we all misunderstood her and it is like "JUST DROP IT WILL YA" okay enough with my vent... My mom is a looney bird and I mean LOONEY she needs some serious issues to be discussed or something, she has got something wrong we can not figure it out, we are not sure if it is truly personality or what. Okay, so my mom is crazy, my poor sister is like Maybe I should not move into her home but really it is the best place for what she needs right now. Now my mom is freaking out about having her pay rent, she does not want to take it and now she feels like she should not have her move THE DRAMA just does not stop!!! I can not figure it out!

That is so serious drama! Is your sister sure she wants to subject herself and her twins to your mother's drama? Living in a home that her mother owns may invoke more meddling and intrusion than your sister bargained for. She needs to think carefully before giving your mother that much control of her life.

that has been discussed even with my dad but where she is financially and what she needs out of a rental at this point, renting my mom's house is really the best and only option at this point. Her and I discussed about her just changing the locks on the house which she does plan to do because my mom has not changed the locks since she was living there about 18 years ago and that she did not feel safe as she never really collected all the keys from past tenants and never bothered to feel threatened by it. Also my dad is going to fix the burglar alarm in the house and for sure she will not give my mom the code to the alarm, it will force my mom to have to contact her first which every tenant should have the right to have....contact before a landlord comes to the house. She still plans to pay my mom for rent and therefore she should have some rights there. She is looking for a backup but just can not afford what is out here currently. Once she has been here for a year we will all have a better idea of what it is she can get or possibly afford.

That all sounds excellent! Changing the locks and fixing the burglar alarm will help set boundaries. How about a lease? I bet you could find one on line to further delineate rights and responsibilities of both. I wish her the best of luck and hope it all works out just right for her.

Maybe your mom has fear of confrontation with the guy. And didn't know what to expect. Certainly a bit of drama. Maybe she should see a doctor. Someone to talk to or get some medication. Either way glad it is calm for now.

yes she is taking medication for her depression, I think she just got scared and did not know how to approach him with it being that she has tried to approach him on many other issues and it would always fail miserably. Anyway, she has gotten through it and it is all fine now.

Wow, that really does sound like a lot of drama. If she is really as looney as you say she is that might be why the guy was happy to move out. It means he would get away from her looniness. I hope the drama settles down a bit for you soon.

No because she offered for him to live in her basement in the house she is currently sharing with her Fiance and I am pretty sure he is just allowing her to rent out their basement so that she feels okay with it. This guy will not sign a lease and he has been late on payments, and has caused my mom some serious issues with her financial situation because he would refuse to pay for his portion of utility costs For MONTHS on end. I think she just realized she would have to confront him and request he move out without having any real way of saying why other than out of the goodness of his heart. But she did committ to my sister saying that she was going to talk with him and she did not see a problem with him leaving at all. So it was not until after she went to talk to the guy she found out that he is having knee issues and is NOW getting along with the tenant that lives in that basement apartment. It is just nonsense,

Sounds like your mum felt that she was doing the wrong thing by evicting the rental guy, so she tried to make it work another way. Sometimes the more that you try to fix and justify something, the worse it gets. I'm glad it got sorted out!

Amen on that one. Yes she was afraid that he would be angry with her and she did not want him to be mad, even though there would be no reason for him to be angry at all being that he has not been the ideal renter....oh well, it is working out for the best
