I did not copy the discussion...

I started a discussion about what others do while waiting... i thought that this was a topic not started yet by any member... so i did not bother to check or search... and as i was reading the responses... i looked at the similar discussion on the right side of the page... and there i saw it... a discussion started a month ago... and it was so similar to what i started... most of the item i pointed out was there... just written in a different style...
I did not copy that discussion... and now i learned my lesson... before starting my own... i will do a search first... or else... i might get accused of coping...
Here are the links to the two very similar discussions...

Who accuses anyone of copying their discussions? There are so many similar discussions here that I figured it's just normal. There are discussions I've started that are similar to others which are dated earlier than mine, but I swear I didn't copy them. Why should I? So whenever I see some discussions similar to mine, the ones dated later than mine, I never assume that they copied it from me.
Don't worry about it. For someone to complain, they probably don't have anything better to do. Especially since it's just a common question about mylot. If it was a discussion on a rare topic with crazy details, then that would be a different matter.

Nobody accused me of anything... because i started this discussion the minute a saw the similirities between the two... so i preempted any questions... but i do agree that since there are already like millions of discussions started here in mylot... some are bound to be very very similar to each other... thanks for the response...

I know you wouldn't copy.
And it happens. I once started a discussion after searching and still I found similar discussions after the discussion was posted.
And another time just as I was thinking of starting a discussion on a particular topic, another mylotter in my friend list started the same thing. So, I responded to it and didn't start mine. The only reason I got to know she started the discussion is because my notify was on.

I know you would never intentionally copy. That can happen to anyone. Even when I thought I did a good search I have found a couple of times that something I posted was mentioned by someone else. No matter, the responses wwere probably different.

Well, some responses were also alike... but i think none of them were copied word for word... i really try to check first if a specific topic was already started... but there are times when the mylot search system would not work properly... thanks for the response...

Hi Aseretdd, no worries! I started this similar discussion, but it's already a month ago. When I saw your topic, it didn't cross my mind at all, that you had copied or anything like that! Most probably, the topic just came into your mind, and you just typed it up. That was what had happened for me, and I usually don't cross-check either!
So don't worry, my dear! We all may have the same thoughts, but we have different ways of expressing our thoughts, and therefore appeal to different sets of people! So have fun and keep posting!

That happened to me too earlier. Sometimes you have to type in the search engine the exact title of your post so that you're sure there is no duplication. What happened to me was that I only typed the vital words and it did not appear, so I thought it was not asked. However when I submitted the question, that was the time I saw the other question posted at the opposite side. You have to type your entire question. Keep posting. All the best and happy Mylotting.

Don't worry about it. It is is nice to check first, something I used to do all the time because I often saw duplicate discussions. But it was a month ago, and since it was only one similar discussion, not like 10, it isn't such a big deal. Besides, people who saw your discussion and responded might never have seen the other person's and not had a chance to reply.

Please do not worry or take it seriously. Sometimes, it so happens that similar discussions are started by different members, without checking whether the same discussions exists. I think, it hardly make any difference, as long as, you are original and genuine in our concept and moreover, different members would reply to different discussion, even if on the same topic.

I truly wouldn't worry about such things. As another person said on this site, there are only so many new topics that you can bring up. Let another accuse you of copying their discussion, I bet if you look hard enough there are several more that were posted before that person's. There are just too many people here to think that every discussion that you come up with hasn't been done before. As long as you aren't copying another's discussion word for word, you are fine.

Well there are already more than 140,000 members and over 1.5 million discussions started in this site... so repetitions are inevitable... and like you said as long as it is not copied word for word... than i am safe... thanks for the response...

In fact I just replied to your that discussion. Take it easy, your discussion is obviously created by yourself. You didn't copy to another's discussion although they looks similar. If you read them, you can find the difference. The contents are different. Copy means everything will be exactly the same. So please don't feel worried about it. There are so many similar discussions in Mylot. It's hard to post an unique discussion.

I really don't think a discussion a month ago should keep anyone from starting one today. What would be the cut off? Two months ago? Three? Six? Personally, I don't think it matters.
While some people might still respond to a discussion of a month or two old, I don't usually. I like the fresh new ones.
With over 138,000 members now, we're bound to start similar discussions, sometimes on the same day. I think the "rules" are more designed to keep one person from posting 3 or 4 similar discussions of their own in the same day or week. And that I have seen - especially by newbies.

it is difficult here not to start discussions that have already been started just because of the vast number of discussions that do exist. it's very difficult to come up with a unique idea.

I agree with you... it is quite difficult to start a uniqe discussion... but i was able to to that in the past... and this is why i don't start a lot of discussions... but next time i do... i will surely check first... i do not want to repeat the same mistake... thanks for the response...

I often skip searching for the same discussions if they exist before I create my own - lazy perhaps. I should, though, so that I wouldn't end up like that. What bothers me is that there are many "new" discussions that are actually very similar with mine - asked in a different perspective but practically the same. Those are not considered "similar discussions" because they have different tags. And they don't violate any rules... but somehow, I think that's wrong.
I'm afraid that there actually are a very few who try to restate discussions just to make theirs unique after seeing that one discussion did well with many responses.
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Well, with the huge number of members here in mylot... such things are bound to happen... repeated discussions... and those that are like just restated intentionally and unintentionally... it is quite difficult to know the latter for the former... so we just have to do out own thing here...
Thanks for the response...

Aww c’mon, its not possible to check each and every discussion that takes place here on mylot. And then something which has happened to somebody may happen to me too about 6 months later. And I then I may want to know the opinion of mylotters to my individual problem, not something which was discussed six months back. I think this very idea of having similar discussions is quite a vague one…one change of word here and there and the discussion can change while remaining basically the same and this maybe intentional or unintentional on behalf of the poster of the discussion.

I main thing is for the similarity to be unintentional... but we do not have any way to gauge if it was or was not... nevertheless... as long as it was not copied word for word... then there is no reason to react about it... thanks for the response...

Hello aseretdd,
Honestly speaking, I never checked on a similar discussion before I start my own new discussion. If it happens, that is definitely coincidence, not that I am lacking of stuff to share here. I believe that you didn't copy the discussion but it happened that they looked similar. No need to worry too much and keep posting for us *winks*

Well, most of the discussions you start are quite unique because they are based on your own personal experience... i guess those that we are experiencing day to day make good and unique discussions... thanks for the response... and i will await the next one you will post...

Well, i have seen such a discussion... just copied and pasted... and it made the original poster really really mad... i think it was reported to the admin... and the copied discussion was deleted... i just do not know if the guilty one was banned from this site... thanks for the response...

Yes, we live and learn... experience it the best teacher there is... and all members should check first before starting a particular discussion... not unless they have a very unique way of putting their thoughts into words... thanks for the response...

I guess I have seen those two discussions. And I think I didn't
respond for both.
It's because I find them both and don't know which to answer to.
But I don't blame you for it. I also have started some
discussions which topic has already been touched. And also,
from that time that I have known about it, I try to search for
a similar discussion first.
Have a nice day!

Hi,if you take a good look around at the huge amount of People that are posting here on mylot, then it is inevitable that there are goint to be posts that will be duplicated,How the heck can folks keep thinking up so many new posts?and if there are any accusations about the copying, well I would just ignore them,it is natural

Good thing the one who started the other discussion was quite understanding about it... he/she even responded to this discussion... and i agree with you... it is indeed inevitable for some to be similar... since the volume of members keep increasing everyday... thanks for the response...
