I was trying to figure out when the Sales Tax Holiday was for us here in Florida and I just now found out the Legislature did not authorize any sales tax holidays for 2008 for Florida! Unfortunately, the state of Florida will not be offering its usual sales tax free week during 2008. In the past, the sales tax holiday was voted upon in the state legislature, but the measure was not brought up for a vote this year. That was such a shock to me!
I would have thought with the economy the way it is right now that they would have at least kept the sales tax holiday in order to help us with our back to school shopping for clothing and school supplies!! I cannot believe it!
It sucks because I have 4 children to buy clothing, shoes, and school supplies for.
I know that there are still other states that are honoring the holiday this year. They have in past years and I believe most are still doing it this year.
Were you one of the fortunate people out there that live in a state where they are having this sale?
Oh well...
Have a great day and happy myLotting!

We have no tax on clothes or food. everthing else yes. But I just go to Wal-mart notes books her are .05 cents and I get the cheap folders. I no longer buy for my son as he grad. last this year but I still buy for my great niece and help out my sister with kids she has taken in. I will give up something to help them. I like school shopping but not for the clothes. I will never get that part. Why do you have to have all new clothes to start school?

Well, I usually buy them clothes when school starts and that is the big clothes shopping for the year usually. At least for me, I buy them new clothes because they are children and their bodies are growing so last year's clothes and shoes don't usually fit any more as they are too small for them now. Also, I always keep the old stuff that still fits - I don't throw it out because it is a new school year.
And the younger kids inherit the good condition hand-me-downs if they fit them right.
Usually I get my kids new backpacks but this year they will be carrying the same backpacks from last year.

Some kids are hard to shop for, others not. I am lucky because my daughter loves going to school and seeing her teachers and all of her friends. She is happy when I buy her anything, if it is pink and cute she is happy.
She doesn't understand about brand names yet, just what the clothing looks like. I am happy for that.

I hope you are able to get everything you will need for the Kids. I was looking at backpacks and holly cow. I feel for you on that one. I always had to get my son 2 to 3 backpacks a year as they broke. Or he would drag them on the ground. My son alway's grew more during the summer so he had his clothes before school. I only had to buy alike 2 or three pairs os of pants and a couple of shirts. When he got older no. He was into cars and more dirt then ever. got him a nice pair of pants came home from school full of greese and oil. Right then and there I descided jeans or the cheapest pants I could find. Now I have no girls but my great niece to buy for my gosh I respect anybody with a girl. How do you do it? Picky Picky. No I can't wear that. I think I just mite leave that to her Mom. I'm going to give her some money and if she only gets one shirt then so sorry. learn to shop. You are not rich that is what I want to say. I could use some help on the little girl part.

I've never lived in a state that had a tax holiday and I'm not surprised that Florida didn't get around to authorizing one for this year. Our state representatives no longer represent us, but special interests and anyone that will line their pockets. Sorry you didn't get a break, but you shouldn't be surprised.
