Do you have a dog or other pet that is terrified in thunderstorms?

And if so, what if anything do you do to ease their fears? My dog, Trey- his fears have worsened over time. First he has to hide in one of his many hiding spots, his favorite seems to be his crate that I have a blanket over. When he is extremely upset, I will sit next to crate and reach in and pet him. I will have the fan on high, tv loud and anything else to try to drowned out the noise. Yes, I even hum a song here and there. The vet has given us valium which we have tried a couple times. All it seems to do to me is make him stoned and terrified. Would love to know if others deal with this fear in their pets and what they try to do to comfort their companion.

Yes I have. I have a labrador retriever named Lucky. When he hears thunder, he quickly runs under the sink, his best hiding spot. Then he makes creepy sounds. The sound a dog makes when he is scared. I forgot the term, sorry. When he is scared, I let him go inside the house and play with him so he will not worry about the thunder.
