Hello, We just recently moved into my bf's dad's house and brought our cat with us. However, I don't think he was ready for change. We've been here 4 days already and my cat is not his normal self: He doesn't want to eat or drink (especially his favorite treats) He sleeps all day Hides in the closet and doesn't want to come out doesn't want to play (not even with his favorite teddy) Hardly uses the kitty box I don't know what else to do to get him comfortable. I'm worried me because he won't eat and I don't want him to get sick on me. And I know it takes time for him to get used to things, but how long? Can anyone offer any help or advice? Thanks

Put him in the room you share with your boyfriend and keep the door closed so he's not bothered by noises from the rest of the house. It can take some time to adjust to a new place for some cats. I've had a few cats that have taken MONTHS to adjust, others are out and about in a few days. Just keep an eye on him, give him some special, quiet time loving and make sure that he does eat some. If he goes without eating anything for more than 3 days, take him to your vet, he might need a pill to calm him down. Good luck.

Just to let you know, I have over 20 cats, about half came in as adults so I do know about getting them to adjust.

I think you should try spending time with him and put his food, water, and litter box near him. But if this behavior lasts more than a few days -- especially the not eating --- then I think he should visit the vet to make sure that something else is not going on. Also, please be sure that he is urinating because male cats can be prone to UTIs and can get blocked which can lead to a life threatening situation quite quickly. Good luck.

Oh boy, I didn't know male cats suffered from UTI, thank you for that. I will keep an eye on him and see if he uses the "Kitty". thanks again

That is pretty normal behavior for a cat under the situations. Just put food and water in the closet with him. When he is ready to come out and be himself he will. Just be patient some cats take longer than others to come around.

Thank you for the information. He seemed to be doing okay with that so far.

Hi gigglez. Cats are sensibles animals. They love their things and it will take a time to becomes normal again. The best you can do is put your things in all the house. Your old things that he used to know. Let some clothes without wash to allow he to feel your smeel around the home. Cats need to feel their selves in the known place. Try to feed he in your lap and pet him when he is eating in your lap. He need to feel him self secure. You must be patient. Cats always get stress with movings. Cheers and good luck.

Hi Teka, Thanks for that. I know I have some clothing still laying around in a laundry bag. I was just hoping he'll be ok since he knows his dad from when he would come over our place. But I will try anything to get him back to his own self. Thanks again

I would take him for a vet check and see what your vet recommends. It's not good for him not to eat for a long time. Try a lazer light for him to chase or drag something like a rope or a belt so that he will chase it. Cuddle him a lot so he knows he is still loved. It's very hard for cats to change their routine. Loads of luck to you and to him.

Thank you for your advice. And I do try playing with him, but he seems uninterested and walks away back to his hiding spot. So I will call his vet and set that up. Thanks again
