Does your vegetable garden get better each year? It should? Why did yours?

Each year my vegetable garden and its output gets better. This year my garden got alot better because I implemented a drip irrigation system. And I also kept a closer eye on pests and was much more proactive in battle them. What did you do this year that really kicked it up a notch. Was it a particular variety, a new soil mixture, a new technique, etc.
