I'm a guy and personally I have no tattoos. And I would tell anyone Guy or Girl to give some serious thought to getting/notgetting a tattoo. Your right there is a prejudice against tattoos but it not a girl/guy issue it a tattoo issue. The thought that should be given to the tattoo (or anything that you will keep for the rest of your life is the following) Placement: discreet=good forehead=bad Content:appropriate=good derogatory/shocking=bad Quantity: few or less=good more than 20% of body=bad Quality: professional artist=good homemade=bad Once you have made these considerations you will have to be ready for the following: It will affect first impressions, People will treat you differently, It will affect job interviews, It will affect your ability to give blood, It will look aweful when your a senior citizen (just try to find a goodlooking tattoo on a senior), You could contract hepatitis and die, It is permanent and is extremely painful to remove.
Having said all that... I am fine with anyone getting a tattoo (including my kids)but please consider the above BEFORE doing so.
A tattoo is a permanent reminder of a temporary attitude...... Jimmy Buffet

Typically they want you to wait 1 year before giving blood to insure you don't have Hepatitis C, I have never seen a tattoo stand the test of time and look good 40-50 years later. If you have an example (pic of a old tattoo (40+ years) that still looks great I would love to see) It may be helpful to understand what happens to a tattoo over time: it loses it's color, it bleeds (less crisp), What happens to skin over time (even really fit skin) it gets thinner, stretches, sags.
Is it possible that you will keep that tat totally out of the sun (retain it color) and have 20 year old skin at 80... sure anything is possible... but realistically and statisically not likely.
And if you following my guidelines you will have something enjoyable to look at in your old age

I agree, much thought should be given before you decide to get something so permanent. For example, I am very glad that I didn't get what I wanted at 15. All of my tattoos are spiritual symbols and memorials. All of them can be covered if I choose to cover them. For me, my attitude about my tattoos remains the same...I am very happy with them :)
You brought up a very good point, and that is the possibility of contracting a disease. That is why I suggest going to a shop where they use disposable equipment, and be sure they not only have an autoclave, but that they USE it (I know someone who works in a doctor's office and he doesn't use his "because it is broken.")

Well.. I am a woman, and I have not one but two tattoos on my neck and my back. I love my tattoo, and anyone who seen it said that it was pretty. I actually proud of it because I can show it to people that tattoo is now an art, and no longer a sign of ciminals _

That is so true. I heard a lot of negative comments from people that don't know me that well, but the hardest part is when I should heard that comments from my parents. I just wish I had a parent like you :)
That's an art, why people just don't realize that it was something for the one who made it? Tattoo is meaningful _

If anyone wants a tattoo, please make sure that you get a referral from someone who has some nice work on them AND be sure the place is clean. I go to a place that gets an A from the health department, use disposable needles and an autoclave to clean the rest.
And yes, please make it something you can live with :)

women with tattoos look cool. it also shows they dare to be different. as long as they like their tattoos and feel comfortable, who cares what others say or think. i admire that kind of attitude.
i personally like small tattoos in different places instead of a huge one that covers a large area of the body. but again, it's a personal choice. i don't currently have a tattoo but my wife and i are thinking of getting one

Thank you for your comment. That is how I feel. If you do get one, be sure you get a good referral to a good artist and a clean place...

I am forty years old and I personally never wanted a tattoo. I can see them on men but it just seems a little different for a woman. I am not telling any woman not to get them. It is your decision.
I don't think that I would look right with one. You wanted honesty I am assuming and I don't want to lie to you.

Thank you for your comment :) As I said, it is a personal choice whether to have one or not. I do not think everyone should have them. Thanks for your honesty :)

Well coming from a womens point aview. Also needless to say I also have three. I think it is ok for a women to have tatoos. I just think that you should limit how many you get. I think all people should not get a whole lot. But I can not speak for everyone. I can only speak for me. I got mine, not because someone asked me too. I got mine because i like what i picked out and I like how they look. I guess if a guy says that a women does not need a tatoo only guys are aloud to have them. Then they are just being racial to men. We all know that what you do is your point of view not of the other person. They either like you or don't.

Well said! I got mine because I wanted them. I wouldn't get "sleves," not because I don't think they are art, but because I don't want them. I love mine and plan to get more :)

I think it does not make sence either. I am a female myself and have about 13 tattoos right now, ok it is a little more then the average person. But I just love them and I want to get even more haha, it is really like an addiction to me. All of my tattoos have a special meaning to me. And I do believe you are right that so many people are prejudice,

I think that girls with tattoos are awesome! Nothing sexier than an inked girl...Just my opinion though, I'm sure some people would dissagree...
And I think it's stupid that some people out there think only guys should have tattoos...
