Eve before I have worked in a call center I have heard from a lot of people that a call center job will make you dumb (no offense meant because I am a call center agent myself)... THey call US telephone operators and said that read our scripts as per verbatim.. That is actually not true.. And in fact we all received all the anger of our customers( especially to the people in customer service department).. I just wanna know guys, if you too think of the same thing?

I have a lot of time for call centre people, what a horrible job thet have!sitting there art a desk taking phone calls from hundreds of people ,the majority of them wanting to know something or have a complaint to make, well I really cannot think of a more time consuming and irritating job,and I take my hat off to anyone who can do it!

In fact I think working in the call center is a hard job. Because every minute there will be a call and you will be quite busy with it and hard to have a break. And some people are rude and they are not reasonable at all. However, you still have to keep a good attitude and to be patient to them. I don't think everybody can handle this well. I love China

Of course not. My daughter works as a call center agent and she has achieved a great attitude in dealing with every kind of human behavior. If call center people were "dumb" or becomes one while working in call centers then i think, whatever business is connected to these call center people won't prosper. These people make business deals thru these phone calls made to them. So, i think they must be pretty smart to be able to do that and quite convincing and patient too. Having to answer all calls be it an angry customer on the other end then handle these calls well. but that is just my idea because i know my daughter is a smart call center agent.

I thnk call centers in third world countries are good job opportunities for the locals, but i think there is no growth in such a job. I mean, for smart people to be woking in call centers and getting calls from ungrateful foreigners, thats not something i like personally. I would rather earn less than having an american scream at my ear. But considering the job shortage problem in the philippines and most of the other 3rd world countries, having a call center job is better than nothing.

I totally disagree with you. There's growth in the call center industry. In fact, there are already managers in their early 20's if they're really doing well in their profession. No other business industry can have that legacy, only call center does. With other industry, you need to work several years before you get even promoted but in the call center, it's a different thing.

er...by "growth" i didnt mean getting promoted. I meant, as what psychologists would refer to, overall growth of an individual, or self-actualilzation. I mean, sure, financially speaking, there's growth. An one could easily get promoted. But at the end of the day,is it fullfilling? I know not everyone feels that way about call centers but i've had friends who think that kind of job is just temporary and something to pass the time with while waiting for the opportunity of a "real" job. I'm sure not everyone will aggree with me on this but, hey, that's why it's called "my opinion". Hehehe. 8)

I have worked in a call center for a brief time, whoever said working in a call center is dumb is actually the dumb one. Call Center staff are incredibly Challenged and have to know a LOT of information, they are the front line to an entire company on ALL departments not just one specific thing. You are right the call center staff will get the customer when they are at their most angered if they are angry, it is the call center staff that ends up putting that customer at somewhat of ease before they are sent to a specialist.... I think it would be hard to be a call center staff personally and even though I did it for a brief time for just training, I do not envy that position. Sometimes I think they should be paid much higher for what they do! I just have a hard time with the shifts....I could probably do the job and be okay with it, it is a good way to become desensitized to rejection.....especially if you plan to go into sales in the future.

I think they are there to provide you a great service, I guess sometimes that doesn't always happen but being in the industry myself, there are a lot of call centre agents there that do a fabulous job, I must say they do have a useful slot in the world of work market, and without them I guess it would makes things out there for lot of companies difficult.

i am a call center rep for at&t and i think that working for a call center depending on which one you work for can give you an advantage over most people, working in a call center you learn things about the company that nobody else knows and you get discounts off of the products just becuase you work for the company.

i havent work as a call center agent. but in my own view. i think sometimes its unfair to them that most of the costumer gets angry with them. i admit, i also one of the costumer who did it. but i realized that im wrong after. because some of the operator cant explain more clearly what the costumer is asking. maybe thats one of the reason. or maybe, theyve called the call center angry already. anyways, its part of their job on how they will hold a different kind of situation.

i believe that call center agents serve and important service to how society works today. they do their job and often do their job well. and, i can only imagine the difficult, impatient and frustrated people that they have to deal with on a daily basis. it takes a lot of work. really.

I am basically a call center operator, not for an actual company but for 911. I believe that call center employees are under appreciated, noone knows what we go through besides other call center employees. Noone understands that we get yelled at, cussed out, threatened, called names, etc. all in a days work. We try to be pleasant and helpful while being insulted. We have to remain strong regardless of what we do. The customer is supposedely always right no matter how ridiculous they sound, and we cannot give our own personal opinions. Call center employees are some of the strongest, most sophisticated employees. It takes a special person to do that occupation, noone realizes what its really like until you are on that end of the telephone.

I work in an inbound call center as well. I do customer service for an Internet service provider. It is annoying as hell. I didn't know exactly how stupid some people can be until I took this job. I knew that, overall, people are idiots...but JESUS CHRIST. Has our level of intelligence as Humans really dropped this low?? I work in the area that has to deal with trying to "save" accounts, which basically means I have to try to offer them a better deal or something to get them to stay with us. I also deal with people who are in a 1 0r 2 year service contract that are trying to get out of that contract. I really see how much people are willing to lie and cheat and steal to get what they want. There has GOT to be a better way to make a living. They say that our company has over 500 thousand customers, and that we only talk to about 1% of them. Unfortunately, that 1% somehow manages to drive us damn near insane. Nothing is ever their fault, and no one thinks they should have to pay an early termination fee to get out of an agreement which THEY agreed to, even though it is right there in writing that if you break your contract at any time, you will be subject to a fee of up to $220. They AGREE to it before they ever download a webpage with our service, but it is our fault when they have to pay it??? God help the people who have to work in this type of facility. Unless I can get moved to another department, I wont be doing it for long...
