i have two cute cats. i love taking care of them. the only thing i dislike is changing the sand of their litter box.
i don't mind cleaning it everyday. but when it's time to change the sand, i feel like throwing up.
my boyfriend and i take turns in changing the sand of their litter box. today, it was my turn and i did it with all of my patience.
anyway, are you the ones changing the sand of your cat's litter box or you always pass the responsiblity to someone else?

I never enjoyed cleaning the cat's litter box, but then, it's just one of those jobs isn't it? The worst thing I find about litter is when it gets walked or dug out of the box onto the floor. Litter trays have improved a lot over the years to keep the litter and smell inside, which is a good thing. I don't have a cat right now, but am thinking of getting a kitten later this year. I guess my litter cleaning duties will start again, as no-one else here will do it!

i hope you get to find one cute kitten soon. i mean, even if you have to go through the "scooping and cleaning the poop" part, it's worth it. cats can put a smile on your face nobody else can.

Absolutely. My old girl passed away earlier this year. She was twenty years old! I still have a little cry for her every now and then, and miss her a lot. I haven't been able to get a kitten yet - I have to be ready first - but I think it is wonderful to have pets, especially in a home with children.

It is my job to change the box every time for it's just me and no one else here to help me. I don't mind changing the sand in his box but I must say he makes that thing stink up quick by day 4 I am finding it has to be done again. That is something I need to do today thanks for the reminder lol. I have learned to just start letting him go out side and he can come in through the open window if he wants his food and water. I'm hopeing this cuts down on me haveing to change his box as often.

good luck on that decision, remembering1996!we live on the second floor of the apartment building so, we can't just open our windows and let the cat go out whenever they want. i wish we can do that but we're scared that they might have difficulties in coming back in. i do bring them out sometimes with a leash so they will be able to get fresh air and eat some grass, too.

Well, we have two dogs. We used to have them both playing around the house all day long. However, the problem was that it was so difficult to housebreak the labrador puppy. It had been way past two months and she couldn't learn to do her thing on the right spot. Worse, our other dog, a Japanese Spitz, was beginning to do the same thing she did. We would all clean up the mess they did, and the house was smelling really bad. So we decided to make them both stay out of the house, in the garage completely, so they could do what they had to do, and not be scolded when they had to do it. Now, our garage would smell really terrible too often. When they do their thing, who ever finds it first would be the same to clean it up. It smells disgusting, I just hate it. But when I see it first, I clean it up and yes, it makes me feel like throwing up all the time! But, well, I can't stand the smell so I just have to get rid of it myself no matter how aweful it makes me feel!

Hehe..I love the photo of your orange kitty on top of the laptop...LOL. Is she surfing the web for kitty treats?
I really don't have a choice in the matter since I live alone, so it's up to me to change the litter which I usually do at least once a week (I use either Fresh Step or Johnny Cat)..I sometimes DO wish my two kitties could change and clean out their own pan...after all it's their mess..

cleaning the litter box is one chore i would rather skip altogether, but of course cannot.
i feel it is very important for the health of your pet to provide a clean, safe box.
i take turns with my husband cleaning the box. we do let it go sometimes if we get busy, but i try to keep it as clean as possible.
i work at a nursing home and am a nursing student, however, so a bit of cat poop doesn't phase me in the least, as far as making me sick is concerned. i've seen worse, trust me! lol.

i worked in a few months (worked extra) in a nursing home. you're right, the cat's poop are nothing compared to what we do there.
plus, it's always necessary to keep it clean for our cat's health.

Holding your breath the entire time helps me when doing the deed. When I lived with my parents, my mom usually took the responsiblity. But now on my own, I'm the one being dumped on *pardon the pun*.

I have a self clean litter box ; so all I have to do is empty the container, and sometimes refill it with cat litter. Sometimes it doesn't get all so I have to scoop some of it out my hand. I use fresh step which makes it a lot easier to clean. This works really good especially if you don't have self clean litter box. If you do it at least once a day.

I am the one changing my cat's litter box. I don't care about the smell but I am too shy if a member of a family will do it for me, since that is my pet that is my responsibility. Anyhow I love my cats so they are very welcome.

I do not have cats anymore, but we used to have three of them, so you can imagine that the litter box was very tasty when they all used it. I would do anything I could to try and get out of it, a few times I managed to bribe my eldest son to do it.
But when I found out I was pregnant it was great because I was not allowed to do it!! So I did a deal with my eldest that he would do it for me and he would get extra pocket money so I got out of it completely! If I am honest though I do not miss that litter tray one little bit, miss the cats, but not the tray LOL.

I am usually the one who cleans the litter box every day. Now and then I will ask my hubby to do it if I haven't gotten around to it. And, he usually cleans at least one of them (we have 3 cats and 2 litter boxes) on Sunday when we are doing our house cleaning. But, when it comes to actually emptying the litter out to put fresh litter in, that is primarily my job. I try to do it once a week. Sometimes I do it every other week.
As for whether it bothers me...not really. I think I am just so used to it. Both the cleaning and the changing of the litter is something that doesn't really bother me at all. It bothers the hubby though. He always covers his nose with his t-shirt when he cleans the litter because the smell bothers him that much. I really think that the fact that I do it almost every day has sort of made me numb to it. It rarely bothers me.

well me and my girlfriend has 2 cats. most of the time she is the one cleaning the litter because it is her pet. a gift from me. but when she's not at home and i can't stand the smell of it. i can't help myself but to clean it. just an advise though, when you are scooping those poop make sure that you have a mask or a cover on your nose. study shows that there are actually parasites that thrives on cat's poop. better safe than sorry. have a good day.:)

The cute appearance of animals make us like them and take them as pet. But when we have them we will find cleaning their place is really annoying. I have not ever have cat. But i ever have pet fish and tortoises, clean the fish jar every day is really tough.

Well, my husband has a saying it is your cats so you do it so I do anything that has to do with my two cats. But he does help out on occasion to feed and water the dog we have.

I do not do poop, I buy it, my husband cleans it. I use fresh step. I have not tried any other brand, as finicky as my kitties are they may not use anything else. Yes, my husband is the pooper scooper and cleaner in my house.

Hello maryannemax,
You can get litter that makes the smell go away and it won't be so bad when you are cleaning it or spray some air freshener around the box, that might help so good luck and hold your nose.
