West Ham retires 6 after 50 years

West Ham United decided to retire the number 6 shirt worn by former England and West Ham player Bobby Moore, marking 50 years from his debut on Upton Park. Their announcement was published on their site (www.whu.co.uk) today. Moore was West Ham's most successful captain, winning the FA Cup in 1964 and the European Cup Winners Cup following year. He also made 108 caps for England. He died from cancer at age 51 in 1993. Matthew Upson, who was wearing the number 6 previous season will take the number 15 shirt.
