I still do not have a cell phone nor do I know how to use one, but will be getting one for me and my son who is starting middle school next year.
I would suggest always having a land line for emergency purposes. And if only one phone make sure it is not a cordless.
In case of power outages you will not be able to use the phone and cannot recharge the cell.

I only have a home phone. I don't want to get a cell, because I have some friends that are chatter boxes and probably call me all the time if I had a cell phone with me. Also I heard that the news say that if you talk on the cell all the time you can probably get cancer. They are still researching because cells haven't been around for that long, but they reccomend that children should not use cells on a regular basis.

no. landlines are expensive. and most of the people i call have cell phones. landline to cell phone calls are expensive. whereas cell to cell calls are more affordable. and if i dont need an answer urgently, i just send a text message. it is just cheaper than making calls.

I still have a home phone but have seriously considered dumping the land line and going totally cellular. I rarely use my phone and my phone bill is starting to be outrageous just for local service. For the $50.00 I spend a month to have that phone in my room, I could have a cell that could be taken wherever I want to go. The only thing that's holding me back is the service contract for years! I don't like that part of cell phones and I'm hoping that one of the companies will come out with a better plan before I'm ready to switch.

u should have both, if u r in India
1. u need home phone as it is cheap and is permanent, its bill is required everywhere, including license
2. mobile is required to catch hold of someone

We don't have a land line phone. I think it is more convenient to have cellphones as you can contact the person wherever he is. There are telecom companies in my country offering dsl with free land line. Depending on the person's preference, it may be helpful to them. In my case however, it would just be another unnecessary expense for my family.

I have both.
If something happens to one, you always have a back up in case of an emergency.

I use both home phone and cell phone, but my brother has decided to switch only to a cell phone. It is cheaper overall. Because why do you need to pay for an extra home phone, when you have a cell phone, and it can have the answering machine and everything anyways.
