Hi I only have a cold water tank at home with one shubumkin and two fantail goldfish and every time I go into the pet shop for pet supplies I look at the tanks and they never seem to have my favourites which are more commonly called Borneo suckers, see pic, WELL TODAY THEY HAD SOME YIPPEE, so I now have two of these delighful creatures in the tank, they fascinate me they way they stick to the glass and clean. What fish do you keep or have kept in the past and what are your favourites? Please share. Ellie :D

I have only had a goldfish....but my son and his family have a big fish tank with quite a few fish in it...they have one like you are talking about..it's it fun to watch. I also understand that fish are very good therapy making a calm and serene atmosphere for anyone around them....I do enjoy watching them.

Hi Jill, I find fish very relaxing to watch and yes I guess they are good therapy, they always seem to have tanks in hopsitals and doctors surgeries these days. I have been waiting so long to be able to get the Borneos and at last we have them. My son has named them Bib and Bob which I think are great names. When they are not on the sides of the tank they hide so I spend ages each morning looking to see which rock they are hiding under. Ellie :D

We used to have fish tanks in our home also. We used to have goldfish and some neon fish in there. We also had an algae eater that grew very big. They are also called sucker fish. They suck the algae off of the tank gladd and in the rocks. We don't have them anymore though. We do have a garden pond in our back yard though and working on another one. We have goldfish in them. I need to see if sucker fish will live in there to help keep the algae down.

Hi Steph, I won't have a pond just yet as my son is still very small but will consider once he is older. I take him to feed the fish in the local park though and we will sit there for ages as some are very large and come right out of the water to feed from your hand. I love watching fish of any sort, I find them so relaxing. Ellie :D

I'm not a fan of 'fancy' goldfish but I've two comets in the pond with a fish I know as a Plecostomus. That's a sucker fish and when young resemble your photo. As there are several dwarf varieties I'd imagine yours is one of that family of fish.
I have a clown plec in my tropical tank, and I have 3 Ottocinclus which could also be your Borneo sucker. It's not a name I've heard before.
I've a 4ft Tropical Community tank with a pair of Angels and various shoals of Tetras, Platies and Cat fish. There are also a pair of Bamboo Shrimp in the tank. I also have a 2ft tank that is home to 5 aquatic frogs. They are African Dwarf Frogs and only grow to 1.5ins. I can lose hours just watching the tanks. From the graceful slow glide of the Angels to the sometimes frantic and ungainly swimming of the frogs, I find them fascinating. I'm also in the process of cycling a new tank but haven't decided on fish yet.
I grew up with lots of pets and tanks and took home several fairground wins which I always expected my Mum to bring back to health with a touch of her magic wand! She was also expected to perform those miracles on a variety of unwanted or unsuitable pets. My own daughter once brought home the saddest looking little goldfish with most of it's tail and fins missing. My brother made the remark it would be lucky to last the night so when it survived she called it lucky. She had that fish for 15 years!
When I think of all the fish we've had, it's difficult to choose but I guess it would be Angels.
I'm fascinated by Sea Horses and would like to keep them but I don't know enough about keeping marine fish yet.
Enjoy your fish!

Hi Annmac, No marine fish I should imagine are very complicated to keep but yes seahorses would be lovely. You certainly have a fair mixture there and I love plecs, my brother has a really large one in his tanks which has similar fish in it to the ones you descibe but no angels. I would love to move on to keeping tropical but for now I think I will stick with the goldfish and the Borneos. The Borneos do resemble the plec but much much smaller in size but do the same job in the tank though really. Thank you for sharing. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie! I love aquariums - you must be so excited to have found your balitorids! My parents have always had fish - they used to have tropical ones when I was growing up and I loved the neon tetras especially, all together in a little school. Maybe when we retire I'll be able to set some up when we settle into our new home. They are incredibly soothing to watch.

Hi Guybrush, My son has named them Bib and Bob, bless. I was excited to find them at last. My borther keeps tropical and has allsorts. I like the beautiful colours of the tails of the male guppies and they are just so easy to breed but for now I will stick with the hardy goldfish and progress to a tropical at a later stage. I find them so relaxing to watch. Ellie :D

good morning ellie
The only fish we have ever had were gold fish, and only because we have won them at the school carnival. Other than that I can't take care of fish. It nice to see them swimmming around, you're able to relax. But the times we have had fish they don't last to long. have a great day.

the times when we did have the goldfish and they die, my daughter was crying and I had to tell her that they left the tank to go to a bigger one. So, there we go out and bought her another one. Of course that die also, but I told her no more, if wanted a something else I get it for her. yes it does cost a lot to buy all the equipment.

Hi Kaleegirl, Goldfish are the hardiest and easiest fish too keep. I would love to get some tropical ones but it is getting all the heating and lighting equipment that goes with it all that I am not looking forward to paying out for so Borneos and goldfish it is for me for a while. LOL. Ellie :D

Do you mean that your fish is not a salt water fish?
I did get a very large tank from a freecycler and we enjoyed it for almost a year!
Where we live, people tend to have very small houses, only one floor, no basement,
and so we have to pick and choose what we put in our house!

I used to have an aquarium with some Angelfish in it. They lived for a long time but that was years ago. I have been tossing around the idea of getting another aquarium. I miss having fish.

Hi Skinnychick, They are just so relaxing to watch, I wish I could get some tropical ones at some stage but until I can afford all the extra equipment, heater, lights etc it will be cold water fish for now. I sit watching them for ages so does my son. He has named the Borneos Bib and Bob bless. Ellie :D
