Are the schools getting too involved?

I just noticed a new item on my kids school website. There is a download link for a pre-approval form for doctors visits. They do say with the exception of an emergency, but for an vision or dental visit the appointment has to be pre-approved. What? I have to ask the school if I can take my child to the doctor. Why isn't a doctor's excuse enough and if I don't do it, what happens? This should not even be legal! It's none of thier business.
Does anyone else deal with this?

That's not fair at all. Is it a public or private school? I don't care what anyone tells me, if my child is going to see a doctor they will even if it's not an emergency and if they punish my child for it, then they dont' know what's coming when i storm down to their school to protest it.

I have never heard of anything so....so....i dont even know....weird?!? I would be going over to the school and giving them a piece of my mind. It is none of the schools business whether or not you take your child to the doctors or dentists. As long as they have their records of innoculations and periodic dental records, nothing else should matter. I understand them needing the above mentioned things-for the health of other children in the school- but needing to get PERMISSION to take your child to the doctors is nuts. They don't notice the signs of disturbed students or those who are getting bullied but they sure know about every visit to the doctors. I think schools need to get their act together a bit better and maybe be trained on seeing signs of problems in schools. Maybe then children would be getting beaten up all the time, stabbed, shot, killed, you know. Apparently those things aren't as important as knowing when your child goes to the doctors. That makes me sick.
