No. I didn't even do it on the second try. In my case, the third time's a charm.
Here's a little hint for anybody trying to pass their test on the first try (yeah right, like anybody's reading this topic this far back ha ha):
Don't learn to parallel park in a Ford Crown Victoria that is the size of the Titanic. I failed the test both times out of the gate because the car, literally, would have only cleared the driving cones by inches if done perfectly.
Once I took my driving test in a tiny little Ford Contour, I passed with flying colors!

Oh geesh, the last part of my response came out really wrong (she says with a bright red face). A perfect example of the risk of sacrificing detail for brevity.
The resounding advice throughout my H.S. halls, was to do your best to get a male administrator. Not for the reasons one might think, but rather because the local female administrator was alot tougher on gals. The theory was that it was her personal mission to make sure that she didn't contribute to the supposition that women are lousy drivers.
Also, it was purported that the male administrators had more sympathy for female test takers. Although it was probably just lower expectations because of the same theory about women drivers.
(She slinks away mumbling something about making the embarassing statement.)

Hi Limitup,
So, you took your test in a boat? Mine was in a muscle car, 440 horses under the hood. I'd already developed a propensity for lead-footedness, so the key for me was behaving. 'Course, I think having a test administrator of the opposite gender helps too. Was your administrator of the same or opposite gender?

Lol. 440 horse power vehicle for your driving test? I love it. I'm actually a slow, conscientious, grandma-like driver but that is hilarious.
No, I had a guy so I couldn't impress him with my cleavage or even my hot pimped out parent's Contour. Ha ha.

I thought there was no way I was going to pass it the first time. But the lady passed me! I was also 19 instead of 16 when i took it.

I'm glad I'm not the only person that was 19 and passing the driver's test!

I did pass in my drivers test which I took for the first time. That was my first and the last time to take the test. I find that it's not that difficult to get pass, the main thing which I always did during the test was concentrate on the road. I am very happy to know that I pass the test while the other friends have to take it twice before they get pass. My friend said she always nervous when driving, which for me is the reason why we can't concentrate on the road.

I failed because I couldn't make a three point turn and I was over to far in a turn lane.

Did I pass my driver's test the first time? No I did not. How many times did it take me to pass the test? It took me five times to take that durned test. The first two times I took it, the instructor had a personality that I liked. She was sweet and patient with me. Once, I had an instructor that practically would bark the instructions at me. I guess it was her personality that made me not like her very much. I know they have to be strict, but she was a little TOO strict! I have a generalized anxiety disorder, where I have panic attacks and I had to start taking medication for that. I always take my medicine at night, but the day that I passed the test, I took another one to keep me relaxed and didn't drink any caffeine, and I passed the test. Boy, was I relieved! My mother let me drive us home, and she even let me drive to the church that same night for visitation. I was one happy nineteen-year-old that day. Yes I was nineteen when I passed the driver's test. It took me longer because of my nerves.

Hi courtlynne77. Actually, I did pass my driver's test the first time. I was very nervous about the parking part; especially the parallel parking. When the tester finally asked me to parallel park, I began to sweat. I pulled up beside the car that was already parked and surprised myself by just backing right in. One try! I have never tried it since. I will also go around the block just so I won't have to cross traffic! Thanks for this post.

I failed both the written and drivers test - this was back in 1977 and 1978. The good old days.

Yes, I passed it the first time. Tests have never been a problem for me. Since that time I've tutored a lot of young people who were studying to take the test, and I know a lot of them had to take it several times before they passed. And once you have your license, it doesn't matter how many times you took the test.

Yes, I did it the first time, I drove with a temporary pre-license for 2 months before taking the test (the instructor was on holiday).

Hi Courtlynn77,
Interesting question! Yes, I passed the first time. Of course, I had a brother who would have teased me mercilessly had I not. So, the pressure was a real motivator.
Having taken Driver's Ed was a huge help. And, most of my training was in an old full sized pick-up truck with a great instructor -- my father who had the patience of Job.

My father is not a patient man, but I love him anyway. He was my main instructor. He tried to teach me in his truck before the van. The problem was, his truck is a straight-shift, and I cannot drive no straight-shift. I tried to, but he was not patient, and my mother convinced him to teach me in the automatic, which was better. My mother started driving with me in the driver's seat more after that.
