wanted to be self-employed? How did you know what you wanted to do for a business? How did you know it would work out? So many businesses start and fail these days. I'm wondering what the Keys to Success are?

I am self-employed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. After we moved to FL, I decided to work only part-time and had an offer to work at a psychiatrist's office here. I love my work and have worked in many different settings. Some of the settings I've worked in are: a community mental health center, a Catholic hospital, a couple of child welfare agencies, and some universities (as an instructor, usually but I was a grant writer at one university).
Well, I studied for 6 years to be a therapist. I decided on that several years ago. Some therapists are full time employees in various settings. And I did that for quite a few years. Now, it's like a bonus to still get to do what I love, only on a part time, self-employed basis.
How did I know my current job would work out: well, the psychiatrist had been in practice for 15 years and had 3 offices, each in a different city close by. His practice was and is quite successful so I was pretty sure it would go well there.
I guess the key is to either join a business that is already successful or be willing to work day and night to make sure your business succeeds. Also, being flexible and open to new ideas helps.

Thanks, that's cool, glad it worked out for you. Not sure how to implement it in my life, but I'll be open to it if it presents itself.

Knowledge is never lost and you'd be surprised how many things cross over from one field to another. Just think how many jobs require the ability to communicate, get along with others, work in a group setting, etc.
