altho it never worked a few years back to force us to buy smaller cars and not vacationa and all . Lets not let them stop us now . Call your congress people and get them back in the house to vote to open up more drilling

What i don't understand is why people STILL think drilling off shore is going to slash prices on gas. The average person thinks we'll see a decrease in the cost of gas immediatly after we start drilling. I'm glad to be seeing these numbers all over the net. I just have to take it upon myself to remain eduacated about this so i can make wise arguments against it.

No we dont think it will drop prices fast but we do need to get out from buy oil from other places.
and they have many capped off that they can uncap and start refining also we have lots in reserve .
They also have things in place to start doing oil shale refining they just have to do it!

Yeah, I think they should start drilling also, like my husband says, all the people opposed to it, say that it will harm wildlife and the land. But he said they won't show you the places where they want to drill, they make it sound like its a place where theres alot of wildlife and mountains, and the land is beautiful. But actually its the opposite, he said theres nothing there, its all flat, and theres not any kind of life on it, its not picturesque like they say it is, its just a flat piece of ground with nothing on it, and they want to save that? I think they should go ahead and drill on it, especially if it will help us to save money in the long run. Also we have enough oil stored up to last a lifetime, and I don't know why they won't just start using that, instead of importing it and costing us alot of money at the pump, and relying on foreign countries for it, when we can take care of ourselves...Have a good day

It takes close to 10 years for a new well to become productive. We should have done this 10 years ago. I'm not saying we shouldn't explore now, but there are several hundred thousand square miles that the companies have leased that are sitting idle. Shouldn't they check these out first?

Let me start off by saying I agree we have to start producing oil in this country RIGHT NOW! However we do not need to lease more land to the oil companies. The oil companies have oil fields that they have drilled and capped. The oil companies have land that has not even been explored yet. Worse the oil companies have land that will produce significant amounts of crude.
The bottom line is that the oil companies don't want cheap US produced oil. To drill that oil up now means that it won't be there in the future to sell at a premium. So we don't need to pass laws to give the oil companies more lease rights to land that they can sit on for 20 years and then sell us the oil at a premium. We need to pass some laws that set time limits on how long the oil companies have to drill on the land they have and enforce these laws by revocation of the lease. The oil companies will either produce thus reducing the cost per barrel or they will loose the lease and I assure you there are investors that could have that oil out of the ground and in the refinery within 5 years.
In addition as much as it would be a wonderful thing to find a clean burning fuel the combustion engine is here to stay, at least for a while. To be honest I am not even sure why the automobile gets such a bad rep. Automobiles make a a minute percentage of pollution related to fossil fuels. We need to concentrate on finding alternatives for producing power, running factories, and heating homes and buildings. For some reason the family sedan is always painted as the villain when it comes to pollution and it just aint so. There is very little mention of the coal and oil power plants and CO2 producing factories and industrial complexes. It would stand to reason that if we replaced the antiquated power plants and upgraded our factories there would be plenty of fuel for our cars. It also makes sense that it would be easier to convert the national power plants than to redesign the automotive industry. We already have nuclear power, wind power, solar power, hydro power etc...
We need to stop looking at what the spin doctors want us to see and use our brains to think for ourselves. Certain things that we "know as fact" just don't make sense. The reason for that is because it is not necessarily true.
But yes I do agree that at this point in time we need to start getting some oil out of the ground. It just can't stop there.

My hubby worked on several that were ready to go on line and then they set there!
One had to be redone for a tornado blew a grane into the top and took a part out the looked like Texas!
