First free email service in internet?

Hi! :D I don't know which one of the two was earlier than the other. Same as wallie, I think MSN was first. I started using the internet in 1997 and my first e-mail was from Hotmail, which is also MSN. I started using Yahoo! Mail at around 1999.

This is going to have to be a guess I don't know for sure. I started using Internet in 1996 and hotmail was the only free email service I knew of back then so can't say who was first for sure. But I think MSN beat Yahoo but maybe not by much.
