Indoor ferns

This morning I was lucky and managed to buy two indoor ferns at a reduced price, ferns are popular because of their attractive foliage and their ability to grow in light. There are smll ferns taht are suited to terrarium growing. But the larger species may grow as high as five foot tall! While the ferns we most commonly picture have finely cut leaves called fronds, there are many other foliage types. Holly ferns have fronds with broad segments that are leathery, shiny and toothed like holly leaves. Several other ferns have fronds that are not divided at all. Staghorn ferns foliage is deeply lobed and resembles moose antlers.
A few ferns are also grown for their unusual stems that creep along the soil surface. These rhizomes are covered with brown or tan hairs that make them look like animal feet. It is an oddly appealing look.
All ferns are moisture lovers and like to be kept wet,so as soon as I got home I watered them .They like to be misted too, with a spray bottle. The fronds love this!A light fertlizer should be given to them between april to september..but whatver you do please handle your ferns with care...they hate rough treatment!!

Hi ruby, I don’t have much knowledge about fern. Thanks for sharing some valuable information here to enrich my knowing about the plants.
I have some indoor ferns planted in flower pots. I place two potted ferns in my sitting room and hope that these green plants could make the atmosphere of the room a bit lively. The rest of them are under the shade of a rambutan tree. I change those indoor ones with the ones outside every week, so they could grow vigorously in the humid environment outside. The ferns I plant are the normal fern plants which are those that people usually use in flower arrangement.
posting and have a nice day.

Hi ruby, thanks for the best response selected
Yeah, I always attracted by the unique features of the greenish leaves of the foliage and amazed by their strong ability of propagation.
You are right, moisture will often favor the growth of ferns. So very often we would find these plants grow vigorously in damp places and some edible ferns are sold in market as vegetables.
posting and take care.

I remember Fern She was a TV presenter Ruby. Nice girl. Very Rubseneque if I recall correctly. I don't watch too much TV these days but if she's about do say hello for me. Are your ferns like bracken? Or is bracken a fern? We have a lot of that round our house in Devon and it's a blooming nuisance. Looks pretty enough, but boy does it spread. The dogs used to get ticks from bracken too. Blooming things they are to get out. Ticks, not the dogs. Mind you the dogs could get lost in there for ages if they had a mind to. In fact last year I found a tick crawling up my leg. I squished it before it took a bite thankfully.

Ferns are so good they look good outdoors too,and they seem to like it in my yard, ive several in pots in my yard and as long as I keep them moist all the time they seem to do well there. There are hundreds of kinds of ferns and im always looking at them on Ebay,so you have to pay the postage but if you get a good collectors fern, then thats fine by me.

Hi ruby,
That is also what I am planning to have soon...I used to have in our house but once in awhile we will take it out and take it back again! LOL!
When I got here, my husband's house now our home, LOL! Has no ferns at all, so, I am planning to have some in the living room maybe after all our renovations!

I am useless with ferns, they are way too delicate a plant for me. I am great with rubber plants but that is about it.
My Mum used to keep ferns, now she is a green fingers and can grow anything and make anything thrive. She had a fern once and if we stroked its leaves they would close up.
