Have you seen any wildlife when traveling?

I enjoy watching native wildlife when I am overseas. Years ago I went to Kenya and did a safari seeing lions, giraffes, hippos, zebras, elephants and a leopard.
Have you ever seen a wild animal when you have been overseas or in your home country if you are lucky enough to live somewhere as special as Australia?
If not, what kind of animal would you like to see most?

Starting with home here in Australia, our home backs onto bushland, so we see plenty of ringtail and brushtail possums, and fruitbats which are really cute but noisy. We also have a bluetongue lizard living in the back yard, along with lots of skinks, geckos, several frogs and unfortunately a number of spiders as well.
My husband found a frog in our second floor bathroom one night - we have no idea how it got up there - and I had an encounter with a funnelweb spider in the loungeroom also recently, which was not so nice. We also have a lot of native birds around - white and black cockatoos, a variety of coloured parrots and lots of lesser known birds. We had a pair of tawny frogmouths (which are a bit like owls) build their nest in the tree right outside. They sound like a truck reversing at night ... beep ... beep ... beep. We couldn't believe it when one night we had guests out the back, and the chicks flew down onto our fence right next to us.
Around Australia I've seen most of our native animals in the wild. Recently I was lucky enough to see a koala with her joey (baby) climbing on her head. That was so gorgeous. Standing on a beach and watching whales or dolphins playing just off shore, seeing seals covering an island, or swimming amongst coral reefs are unbelievable experiences. I still hope to see a Tasmanian devil and a platypus in the wild one day.
Overseas I was fascinated by squirrels in England, monkeys in Singapore and I got to swim with sharks and stingrays in Tahiti.
As you can probably guess, I love animals. Sorry this is soooooo long!! You are very lucky to have been to Africa. That would have been absolutely amazing. Add that to my list of places I must go. I would also love to see a panda or a tiger in the wild - that would be the ultimate joy.

Thank you so very much for your excellent response and it is fine that it is long and well detailed. I was delighted to see two cockatoos at breakfast time one morning but they came down and stole toast from two little boys. I adored seeing colorful parrots like the Port Lincoln Parakeet, nicknamed the Twenty-eight. It must be wonderful to have a blue tongue lizard living in your back yard. The Tawny Frogmouth chicks must have been so gorgeous. I think possums are the cutest little animals that I have ever seen. Fruit bats are adorable too. I think funnel web spiders along with red back spiders can kill, but the huntsman that is huge is harmless. Seeing a koala with a joey on her back must have been a blissful experience. I haven't seen a platypus yet, I wish! I spoke to a man that went camping and a Tasmanian Devil got in his tent. Oh my!
The ocean holds some real treasures from the colorful coral to the sea creatures. I have snorkeled with a manta ray in Western Australia and with sting rays in French Polynesia. The sharks there look more scary than the nurse sharks I saw in Belize. I was doing some sand boarding when I saw a fairy penguin in New Zealand.
I would like to go to Churchill in Canada and go off to an expedition to see polar bears. I would love to visit China and see a panda. It would be amazing to see a tiger in India. When I was in Belize I heard a jaguar. I get joy from seeing wildlife too. I love animals so very much Penny64.

You are very lucky to have travelled so extensively and seen so much wildlife. You are also unusual, as a lot of visitors here from the UK are terrified by possums because they look like rats ... lol. It's most refreshing to hear that you love wildlife so much, and you've done some incredible things. I'm not sure I'd like to have a Tassie devil in my tent - they are really vicious. I get excited hearing a lion roar in the zoo - I can't imagine how amazing it would be to have heard a jaguar in the wild! I agree that a polar bear would be fantastic to see in the wild - I've only seen them in captivity. The cockatoos here are very cheeky. I woke up one morning and though I heard someone walking on my roof. I was worried, and called out tentatively, "Hello?". Twenty little crested heads popped down over the guttering and looked upside down into my window, and one little voice answered me, "Hello?"!

I don't see much wildlife when I travel, I mostly see wildlife where I live.
We have deer, wild turkeys, lots of birds, foxes, raccoons, and skunks.

Wow! You are lucky to have such a wealth of wildlife where you actually live. I see ducks and swans on the river behind my home. Where my mum used to live I saw foxes and badgers. I get birds like sparrows and black birds in my garden.
I love to see birds. When I was in Australia I saw many parrots like white cockatoos and colorful rainbow lorikeets.

Unfortunatey the white cocatoo, "Major Mitchel" can be and is a pest in parts of the country. The destroy everything wooden with their sharp beaks. However they make great pets and are quick to learn to talk. My great aunt had one that had a remarkable vocabulary. Lived to over 100 also, which isn't unusual for these birds.

I have seen wildlife in Australia in its natural habitat. Here in Thailand I've also been to a few natural parks where you can see elephants doing what comes natural. Great way to view animals.

I love to see elephants and was lucky enough to see a baby one in Kenya. Whilst I was there the safari bus stopped by a tree. The man said to look and then we noticed a leopard sleeping in the branches. Wow!
I think Australia has unique wildlife. I saw koalas on Magnetic Island, dugongs off the coast of Coral Bay whilst on a boat and a manta ray whilst snorkeling.

I have been to some. I really enjoyed those places. Actually, I love to be in such places because I truly feel the joy of being one with nature. Nature has given us amazing and astonishing creatures and creations. We should preserve and take care of them.

I love animals and think that wildlife is special. I have seen animals on land and sea creatures in the ocean. I like to see wildlife protected like I did in Belize. One man got the government of that country interested in saving the manatees. Imagine cruising around the Galapagos Islands and seeing lots of wildlife that would be amazing.

I would love to go on a safari! I think it would be great fun but I would be so scared that some wild lion or cheetah would eat me or maul me!
I live in Florida and the wildlife that I have seen on the streets, etc. are alligators, turtles, snakes, lizards, geckos, frogs, toads, iguanas, crawfish, foxes, raccoons, oppossums, seagulls, pelicans, seals, manatees, sharks, herons, cranes, parrots, turkey vultures, monkeys, Florida Key Deer, and many various insects.
We do have a lot of wildlife as we are near the Everglades.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!

Living near the Everglades must be amazing with all that wildlife. I love to see pelicans and saw many of these in Belize. I enjoy seeing lizards and iguanas, colorful parrots and manatees. It would be amazing to see alligators. I have seen crocodiles so far. I hope that you go on an African safari one day. Take care and have a lovely time on My Lot.

Here, in Tennessee where we live the most common wildlife are racoons, possums, deer, foxes, rabbits, turtles, snakes, quail, crawfish, jays, crows, geese, cardinals, ducks, humming birds, groundhogs, skunks, turkeys and insects. You see all of these regularly. When I lived in south Florida I used to see alligators, lizards, armadillos, iguanas, monkeys, crabs, barnacles, little sharks, frogs, toads, jellyfish, manowars, manatees, feral cats and parots also. I'm talking about running into these in plain experience. Not seeking them out. You just run across them and I have personally seen everything I have listed here.

I think that you have a wealth of wildlife in Tennessee and you had different wildlife in Florida. I saw possums and parrots in Australia and hummingbirds and lizards in St Lucia. I saw manatees in Belize and luckily people row around their habitat so they are not hurt by boat propellers. I am not keen on cockroaches, especially those that fly. Australia has stinging box jellyfish off the Queensland coast in some areas for part of the year.

Yes I have and I have a cute story to tell. I was a little girl at the time and my dad had a camper that fit on the back of his pickup truck and we traveled from Virginia all the way to Utah and Idaho and on the way there, we saw a momma bear and her cubs eating on the side of the road. The momma bear had decided that it was time to go back into the forest and called all her cubs to follow, all but one stubborn cub followed her. She turned around and called after her one cub but it wouldn't budge so after a few minutes she went back down the hill and swatted him on the behind and he let out a yelp and ran with all his might up the hill where the other cubs were and kept on going!! LOL I bet he listens to the momma bear from then on!! I've never forgotten that and I guess I never will for it was really something to see!! lol

I don't need to go very far to see wildlife where I live. I am only an hours drive from
the mountains in Banff and we go often, just for a drive, on a nice sunny day. We
see a lot of mountain goats and deers and moose and bears.
One time when we went we went right into Banff and saw right in the middle of the
sidewalk, 5 deers walking. Right in town. People were walking along the sidewalks
almost right beside the deers. I couldn't believe it. I guess they are so used
to the deers coming right into town, that it is not an unusual site for them.
But for my daughter and I this was weird and we stopped and watched them and some
people looked at us like we were the weird ones because we were watching. hehe
Alrighty then, talk to you later,
Your friend, Chris
