losing the love of your life

why losing that significant other hurts so much? why cant we just forget about it and not care? help

It hurts so much because true love never goes away. So if you are truly in love with the other person and you do not have them, it is going to hurt. if you were able to so easily forget about it, then it was never true love to begin with.
