Advocates maintain that home schooling gives children the freedom to study what they are most interested in rather than following a rigid, pre-defined curriculum. Also, some supporters say that the education provided by U.S. public schools is inadequate. I would have to agree that in a lot of cases, children are not getting the one on one attention that a lot of children need. Teachers are given a large number of students and I think the kids today are a lot more distracted than in the past. Just look at the TV shows they watch, the commercialism that they are exposed to from birth and the fact that if they are fortunate enough to have 2 parents at home, chances are they both work (a lot).
Critics argue that home schooling can have a negative effect on children’s development by sheltering them from the outside world. Unlike traditionally schooled kids, home schooled children are not subject to different viewpoints and their limited experiences could cause problems for them as they enter adulthood. Also, some critics would say they worry that some home schooled children receive substandard education due to limited resources and too narrow of a curriculum. There are some valid points to be argued against home-schooling, but I think it really comes down to the parents.
I can’t say I buy into the social isolation theory (the children are going to miss out on interacting with other kids and developing social skills). I think that a lot of the social skills kids learn today are unhealthy in the first place. Sadly, it seems that a lot of the crap we learn when we are young is carried with us as we get older. Look at how young adults act in college. I'm all about having fun, but come on, get a grip. Look at what it takes to be successful in the corporate world(I know first hand). The home schooled kids I’ve known, don’t act like little kids when they are in their 20’s. A lot of traditionally educated kids are still emotionally stunted after college whereas the people i've known, who were home educated, excelled in college and beyond. I'd like to hear from anyone who has been home-schooled and would relate their experience.

i dono about home schooling.. i dont think its right.. i mean in school .. kids might discover subjects that they showed no interest in them at all.. and when they study them in school.. they realize that they like them. i dont think that a 15 year old(even at that age) knows how to choose wat they wona become.. i have always loved biology and forensic science and i wanted that to be my job when i was 15-16.. and even 17.. but as i got in uni this year .. i realized that computer science is better for me.. because i got more interested in it..
i think that home schooling wont let the kid expand in learning and abilities as much as normal schooling does.. and besides, kids need kids , and teenagers need other teenagers from their age.. home schooling doesnt provide that.. and home schooling only gets the kid where this/her parents reached in education.. the parents cant teach their children wat they dont know...
and maybe ur schools r different than here.. but noone comes out as ediot or anything from normal school.. because they have to pass government exams when they reach 9th grade and inorder for them to be able to continue to high school..
and then do government exams at 12th grade.. and passs inorder to get to ANY uni in lebanon.. u wont be accepted even with entrance exams if u dont have that paper saying u passed government exams.. which is good thing.. because it motivates ppl to study inorder to succeed..
there r few things that they shouldnt be teaching in certain classes like in grade 12.. i was life science.. i should take science + language but i took that + philosophy, history watever u want.. and i wasnt interested in that .. i took 10 subjects all obligatory to PASS in..
so the system here is good cuz every kid has to pass that.. and parents cant teach their children that,, cuz not all parents r educated enough..
i believe schools r better anyhow..
