You should listen to their stories in life. Most of the time people want to tell stories about their selves. If you are a good listener and just reacting for a few seconds you can be friends. This is what I notices in most of them, they just like to talk and they want you to listen to them.

The ultimate and best way to get along with colleagues is to have a shared vision. Any group that sees the future the same way and are able to identify their own personal role to achieve that vision will have greater possibility of succeeding. This will also set proper expectations on a lot of things - work ethics, effectiveness, efficiency, etc.
building a shared vision is a core in building a team. it is a requirement, but not an all-answer, to success.
It also takes time to build this. This will dictate the group's shared values and core competence.
Sit down and start building your shared vision and values. it will be a guide to success.
Good day!

I have been out of the work arena for a little while now that I have been a stay at home mother for a while. I have always just tried to be patient and get along with my colleagues being that you need to see them regularly. Just try to share ideas and be open minded.
