To finish something - would you stay up late or wake up early the next day?

Hi everyone!
Say you have to do something, it could be a project or a paperwork that needs to be submitted the next day and you only have a few hours in the evening to finish it.
How would you do it? Would you prefer to sleep late until it is finished or sleep earlier and wake up early the next day and finish the work. Which would work best for you?
Mine would have to be sleep earlier and wake up early the next day. My mind is refreshed by that time and I can work best during wee hours. I don't like to finish a work until late hours. Its hard to wake up in the morning when I don't get enough sleep. It also makes me feel more tired.

Let me first start by saying, been there and done that. (LOL) I'd much rather stay up as late as it takes one night to finish everything I need to get done before going to bed. I can sleep much better that night knowing I don't have to get up quite as early the next morning. I try to sleep in after a hard night's work on projects or whatever it is I need to get done. I know I work best in the morning, as you said because my mind is fresh and ready to go, but I'd rather work hard into the night as I'm a night owl (LOL) who would much rather be up late than up first thing in the morning. I think your strategy works much better, though, even if I don't have the self discipline to do it that way! I'm sure you do much better on the things you need to get done. I try to manage my time so I'm not in this pickle in the first place, though. Thankfully, I've been graduated from college for over a year now and don't really have such issues anymore. It's a great feeling. Good discussion. Thanks!

I know that the way that you do it is probably the most sensible, and when I've been in this situation that's what I've strived to do as I like the idea of being all fresh and refreshed early in the morning.
However, in practice I've always ended up working through the night until it's finished. You see when it comes down to it I am never refreshed in the morning - whatever time I've gone to bed, I am cranky, grumpy and sleepy!! When I've already been working on the project in the evening then I am already on a roll, and in 'work mode' so it just makes sense for me to carry on with it until it's done. And then when I do finally get to sleep at least I'll know that it's all finished and done with and I'll be able to sleep soundly!
But that's just me. I've always been a night-owl, not a morning person. It sounds like you work better in the morning, so you should work whichever way suits you best.

I can never trust myself to wake up early! So if I have a deadline I'd rather stay up till late (even the whole night if needed) and finish it off. I load myself with coffee some good music and lots of stretch and walk sessions to keep myself up when needed!

If I really need to get something done, I need to stay up until I finish it. For one thing, I do not always wake up easily in the morning, and I do not trust myself to get up and out of bed early enough to accomplish everything. I also tend to underestimate how long it will take me to get something done. Also, if I delay it until morning, I will just end up laying awake in bed, worrying about getting whatever it is done, which will also keep me from getting enough sleep to get up early to finish.

I've actually done both at times. I don't sleep much anyway so I guess it doesn't matter which way I do it.

I have found that I personally stay up late and work on it. I think it is because in the morning I have a hard time getting up. Plus, you never know what could happen in the morning. So I have found better to stay up and get it donw and out of the way...then if you need to sleep in you can. At least your work will be done!

Well usually if I have something I am working on and I have a short time to finish it I will stay up during the night and finish it because I can think clearer and be more creative at night than during the day,and plus I hate getting up early in the morning and I always have trouble waking up,so I end up getting up right before I have to be somewhere so I would never have time to finish anything.

I would like to finish a project. I ordinarily have a way about myself that I do not like to procrastinate. I do agree that getting some rest to feel refreshed is a good idea.
I just would rather get something done so I don't need to worry about it later.

Personally, I can't wake up that easy, I am a deep sleeper, so I'd rather stay up late and drink as much coffee as I can take so I can wake up all night long to finish the assignment. I used to do it lol. Stay awake all night when all my friends were sleeping and do my projects, finished it, and sleep when the others get panic because they woke up and found that there were so many thing to do to finish the projects.

Hi! If the work quite hard to accomplish, maybe I'll stay up late to finish it. I'd be able to sleep better if I know that I have finished what I am supposed to do. If I choose to wake up in the morning, I'll just keep on snoozing my alarm until I want to. Also, I'll be hurrying with what I'm doing because I'll be late for school/work. But if the work is easy to accomplish, I'll opt for a longer good night sleep then rush through it in the morning than battle with sleepiness and tiredness while trying so hard to complete such a simple job.

I would stay up late because my brain doesn't work early in the morning anyway so that wouldn't have any point. I'm serious. I can't start working seriously until at least 11am on my best day. Usually, most of my creative work gets done after 3pm. That's just the rhythm I'm on and I'm stuck with it. I've tried to change it but to no avail and no good work every happens when I try to work in the morning unless I've been up all night (which isn't good for my body anyway).

Im just like you. I am always trying to get into a morning rhytmn but it only last a couple weeks and Ill sleep in til 11am one morning and its like the two weeks never happened. I will keep trying but I just think thats how I am because I was always the last one up when I was a kid (I went to bed 10pm). I do admire people who can get up early though but theres perks of those like ourselves too.

Hey I suggest don't try to change how you work well and let it be. At least its everyday. Me, sometimes I have the hard time waiting for my creativeness to come out.Or if it will come out in a day when I badly needed it. Sometimes I'm even pushing my brain to be creative .
Ciao!

Hmm... that would really depend on the urgency of getting the project completed.
If it is urgent, I would sleep late AND wake up early to work on it to get it done.
Other wise, it will depend on the day itself. If I start at the project, and inspiration hits, I will work on it till I am too sleepy to work further before going to bed and calling it a day.
If I am stuck, I most probably will call it a day early and sit on it till the next day. If I can get a good idea, I may even wake up in the middle of the night to work on the project.
So I cannot really give a definite answer to your question.

I am a night owl so I am going to say that I stay up all night to finish something. If I try to do it early in the morning it is hard for me to focus and get started on it. I have more energy at night and the kids are all in bed so it is easier for me to work on something without interruptions. I have always been a night owl, even when I was a kid in school. I used to stay up until 2am every night doing homework and then wake up by 6:30am every morning to get ready for school. My husband is the opposite, he likes to go to bed early and wake up by 5am or 6am. Blech! That is not for me!
So yes, I get a lot accomplished at night time, the later the better!!!

Most often I stayed up late to finish it until i can stand it but when I can no longer control my sleepy feeling, I have to wait till the morning and finish it. I've observed that it is no use staying up very late if you are tired.. the more you can't concentrate to finish what you want to be done.. better rest and do it later when you are already refreshed..

well in my case, i am always tired at the end of the day with the bulk of work from the office then after office i would have to teach my class still. my job responsibility would cover the work of 4 office workers then i have still three part time classes at the college department of the institution where i work. i find it hard to finish all the school work i.e. studying the lessons, checking test papers, preparing test papers, case studies and class activity. because of being exhausted at the end of the day, i would rather sleep early then wake up at 3 am to finish my unfinished work.
