One male and one female in same bowl...let them go to town. I think guppies will take the rest on their own. They are good at reproduction from what I have seen in the past at my best friend's house when I was in junior high. That was years ago. Her guppies were always having babies...and lots of them...they couldn't keep up. (I couldn't ever see them...so tiny as babies...the adults are so tiny themselves.)

Actually, personally I have never seen the attraction in having guppies. They are just so small and hard to see. I like to have fish that I can see from across the room, not need a magnifying glass right up to the side of the tank or bowl. That was what it was like when I was a kid and had two good eyes. Now I wear glasses so I suppose seeing the little things would be even more difficult. Oh, I also think you have to separate the babies once they are born from the parents or they will get eaten.

Get about two female guppies per one male guppy, keeping them separate until you are ready for them to breed. Try pairing the male guppy up with compatible fancy guppies to get optimal results and colors. I have a friend in another state who used to keep a giant fish tank. I called to ask. We have a Beta.

I don't know if I will be of much help but, I will just speak from experience here. I had a fish tank in my teens and I had a few guppies. Um...you don't really need to breed them if memory serves. They tend to have a lot of babies. I think I remember that there were always new baby guppies in my fish tank. They are pretty easy. Just put them together and let them do their thing.

well...
if you want them "colour proof" you have to get breeding guppies from a specilist. If you are just wanted to breed any guppy: add 1 boy and 2 girls (or proportianally more) in one tank and lord and behold. thou shall have guppy babies in no time.
if you have a male guppy that you want to continue with: buy a female, keep it seperate for at least 3 months so that all her babies are born and then present it to the male.
good luck with breeding guppies. lively little buggers they are.
